St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospital provides high quality public and private services to people living in the east metropolitan and Wheatbelt regions. Midland is one of our busiest hospitals, with demand for public services consistently increasing every year, making it a dynamic and fast-paced environment to work in.

We are seeking experienced and suitably qualified Emergency Specialists to join our team in permanent part-time positions as Heads of Service in Emergency Medicine.
There are two 0.5 FTE roles available:
- Head of Service - Clinical Governance
- Head of Service - Workforce
In these roles, you will work closely with the Head of Department to provide strategic leadership, operational management, and high-quality emergency services at Midland
As Head of Service, you will:
- Collaborate on workforce planning, recruitment, education, and professional development initiatives.
- Provide senior clinical leadership to ensure personalised, effective, and timely patient care.

Our Emergency Department
- 48-bedded department which commenced service in November 2015
- 77,000 presentations per year with an admission rate of approximately 30%
- FACEM-lead team-based care
- Excellent, varied case-mix providing a broad clinical experience. This includes Paediatrics (aprroximately 17 % of presentation), Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Stroke Service.
The Position
- Champion patient-centered care, service excellence, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Provide visible and proactive leadership to inspire a culture of clinical excellence, professionalism, and teamwork.
- Role-model ethical decision-making and support staff development through mentorship, coaching, and performance management. Lead change initiatives, contribute to strategic planning, and ensure team alignment with organisational goals.
- Maintain accountability for delivering safe, high-quality emergency care, adhering to clinical governance standards, and meeting key performance and service targets.
- Ensures efficient use of human and physical resources so that the specialty operates within the allocated financial, bed and clinic resources
- Works as a Consultant to provide specialist medical services to patients within the specialty.
- Participate as a valued team member promoting and contributing to a supportive team environment. Actively participates in the clinical duties of the Emergency Department including the Consultant after-hours on-call roster and weekend roster, providing expert Emergency Medicine services at the Hospital.
- Provide expert clinical services for the Department of Emergency Medicine within the Clinical Services Plan for the facility and within the Clinical Privileges formally granted.
- Support the Head of Department in managing the on-call rosters for consultants to ensure appropriate caregivers are always available (in person or by phone) to manage patients.
- Support the Head of Department in managing consultant leave to ensure continuity of service provision
- Support the Head of Department in undertaking annual professional development reviews of all consultants in the specialty
You will hold registration with FACEM (Fellow of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine) or equivalent professional membership and have demonstrated substantial clinical experience in the management of high acuity patients in a complex hospital environment.
You will have demonstrated ability to foster a positive service orientated culture that encourages sound patient care and stewardship, focusing on innovation and productivity improvements, with proven experience in senior management clinical experience in Emergency Medicine.

- Highly competitive salary & conditions ($356,343 - $468,883 plus 12% superannuation per annum, pro rata for part time)
