Docklands, Victoria, Australia Melbourne Water Full time $100,000 - $140,000 per year

Who We Are

In Melbourne, water is essential to our way of life.

As caretakers for Melbourne's water cycle, we care for water, life and land throughout Melbourne: both its people and its biodiversity.

Each time you drink from the tap, flush a toilet, run through a backyard sprinkler, or kayak down the Yarra, we're there. Primed and ready, quietly delivering some of the world's cleanest water for over five million residents and wildlife that call Melbourne home, just as we have for over 130 years.

If you value making it count, diving in with curiosity, and doing what's right, you're in the right place.

About The Role

We're looking for a Senior Service Planner to join the Service Enablement Western Treatment Plant (WTP) team on a full-time, fixed-term contract through to 28 August 2026. Reporting to the Manager, Service Enablement WTP, this role plays a key part in delivering the One Water program at the WTP.

You'll be responsible for helping us get real value from our projects by putting best-practice systems, processes and procurement approaches in place. You'll also oversee the delivery of a portfolio of projects, making sure they're completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality and business standards.

If you enjoy working across teams, improving how things get done, and seeing projects through from start to finish, this is a great opportunity to get involved in meaningful work that has lasting impact.

More about the role:

  • Supporting and in some cases leading development of treatment projects with major risk implications for Melbourne Water, involving multi-disciplinary teams and both internal and external resources.
  • Achieve value for money outcomes by challenging project scope and delivery methodologies.
  • Develop Business Case documentation and Project Development from project initiation to Ready for Tender.
  • Accountable for Project budget, schedule, forecast and risks, and driving Generative safety culture on projects.
  • Engagement with manager and/or project sponsors and key senior enterprise wide, internal and external stakeholders to clarify project outputs and scope.
  • Management of project risks and escalation to steering committee and sponsor as required.
  • Support the business in treatment plant related risk assessments, research, queries or audits.
  • Provide technical support to Service Delivery (Operational and Maintenance teams) as required.

About You

  • Tertiary degree in relevant engineering or discipline field (e.g. process or mechanical) or experience in relatable area.
  • Proficiency in process engineering acquired through experience in planning and design of wastewater treatment processes and a sound understanding of the science underpinning drinking wastewater treatment, including chemical, physical and biological processes.
  • Knowledge of the associated wastewater and recycled water regulatory environment and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated project management experience including the ability to manage internal and external resources, including developing project briefs and assessing proposals.
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight in relation to complex works, projects and programs
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills together with excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to negotiate and influence others to deliver agreed project outcomes.
  • Undergo a pre-employment Health Assessment.
  • Obtain AusCheck Clearance. (please see important information below*)
