We're seeking a technically minded and creative SEO & Copywriting Specialist to drive Smartfix's search performance and ensure our digital content stays ahead in both traditional and AI-driven search. This role combines strong technical SEO skills with content strategy and copywriting expertise — ideal for someone who enjoys analysing data, improving site performance, and writing clear, engaging content that delivers measurable results.
You'll work closely with the Brand Marketing Lead and Social Media Manager to strengthen Smartfix's search visibility, optimise content for both humans and search engines, and continuously improve how our brand is discovered and understood online.
Key Responsibilities
Technical SEO & AEO Strategy
Develop and implement SEO strategies across Smartfix's WordPress website to increase visibility, rankings, and organic traffic.
Conduct ongoing keyword research, intent mapping, and content gap analysis to identify opportunities for growth.
Execute technical SEO improvements — including page speed optimisation, crawlability, schema markup, URL structure, and mobile responsiveness.
Manage on-page SEO: metadata, headings, internal linking, structured data, and RankMath configurations.
Monitor and optimise site health using Google Search Console, Analytics, and SEMrush/Ahrefs tools.
Optimise content for AEO (Answer Engine Optimisation) to ensure Smartfix performs well across AI-powered search platforms (Google SGE, Bing Copilot, ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.).
Stay informed on AI and algorithm updates, providing strategic recommendations to maintain strong rankings across evolving search technologies.
Copywriting & Content Creation
Write high-quality, SEO-optimised content for blogs, guides, landing pages, and service pages — blending clarity, accuracy, and brand personality.
Translate technical trade information into relatable, easy-to-understand language for homeowners.
Collaborate with the Brand Marketing Lead and Social Media Manager to ensure all written content supports campaign objectives and brand tone.
Manage quarterly content refreshes for existing articles and pages to improve SEO performance and accuracy.
Assist with writing award submissions, internal features, and community-related content when required.
WordPress management
Update and optimise website content directly through WordPress, using RankMath for SEO configurations.
Collaborate with web developers or external partners on technical changes, plugin updates, and new page builds.
Ensure page layouts, headings, and media are optimised for SEO, readability, and accessibility.
Maintain site consistency across service pages, meta descriptions, and structured content.
Content planning & collaboration
Participate in content strategy sessions, providing keyword insights, AEO opportunities, and performance recommendations.
Assist in the creation of article outlines, pillar page frameworks, and internal linking strategies.
Support the marketing team in campaign planning, helping align content creation with seasonal or local search trends.
Data, insights & reporting
Track and report on website performance using Google Analytics, Search Console, and RankMath.
Maintain an SEO performance dashboard, highlighting growth trends, keyword rankings, and organic traffic insights.
Analyse content performance and provide actionable recommendations to improve reach, engagement, and conversions.
Conduct regular SEO audits and share insights with the wider marketing team.
Community & Brand Alignment Research
Research and recommend local community and business engagement opportunities, including sponsorships, partnerships, and directories with a focus on backlink value, brand alignment, and domain authority growth.
Identify businesses, associations, and media outlets that align with Smartfix's brand from a PR and SEO standpoint.
Maintain an award calendar, researching suitable award submissions and assisting with award writing.
Manage and optimise directory listings to ensure accuracy, improved rankings, and brand consistency across all platforms.
Continuous Improvement
Stay informed on SEO, AEO, and content marketing best practices, sharing new ideas and tools with the team.
Test new AI and automation tools to streamline SEO workflows and improve content production.
Regularly audit and refine Smartfix's internal content processes, templates, and keyword frameworks.
Ideal Skills & Experience
3–5 years of experience in SEO, content marketing, or digital copywriting, preferably within a service-based business.
Proven track record in technical SEO — site audits, schema implementation, page speed optimisation, and crawl diagnostics.
Solid understanding of AEO and experience optimising for AI search results.
Proficiency in WordPress, RankMath, Google Analytics, Search Console, and at least one major SEO tool (SEMrush, Screaming Frog or similar).
Strong copywriting and editing skills with a focus on readability, accuracy, and conversion.
Experience managing and improving local SEO elements such as Google Business Profiles, directories, and backlinks.
Comfortable interpreting data and presenting actionable insights.
Excellent attention to detail, time management, and organisation.
Proactive, analytical, and curious with a passion for continuous learning in SEO, AI, and digital marketing.
