Overview:
LifeUnleashed by Integra Service Dogs Australia is a leading not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting Veterans and First Responders with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Since its establishment in 2015/16, Integra has specialised in sourcing, training, and placing high-quality Labrador Assistance Dogs, with over 300 successful placements nationwide. Based at our National Advanced Training Centre in Canberra, we aim to transform lives through the healing partnership between people and dogs.
Position purpose:
To provide training and care for dogs in Advanced Training at the training offices in ACT. To prepare dogs to be handed over to Integra Assistance Dog Instructors for their final preparation and placement with a client.
Roll Overview:
The Assistance Dog Trainer is a pivotal role within our operational team, The Trainer oversees the development, socialisation, and task training of Labrador Assistance Dogs within foster placements and working with our Volunteers in the ACT and surrounding regions. This role is integral to preparing dogs for successful matching with approved Veteran and First Responder clients.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide training in Advanced Assistance Dog skills in accordance with the current practices held at Integra training and ADI (Assistance Dogs International) standards.
• Assess the dog's training progress and reflect in regular reports
• Assist with community events, presentations, and fundraising initiatives.
• Transport Assistance dogs to training venues and conduct on-site training sessions in public environments.
• Collaborate with the operations team to design customised training programs.
• Participate in developing placement/ matching plans for trained dogs with suitable handler clients.
• Support foster placements, including coordinating necessary equipment, feeding and bedding requirements a transport for dogs in training.
• Maintain daily digital reporting and tracking of dog development using Microsoft Office Suite and CRM tools.
• Education and training of volunteers on dog welfare and behaviour of Integra's Assistance Dogs
• Coordinate veterinary care in partnership with Integra's Veterinary team, ACT.
