Senior Chemist

About the role

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Chemist to join our team at PURE ENVIRONMENTAL. As a Senior Chemist, you will play a crucial role in providing technical expertise and building capability in our technical team, contributing to the success of our Western Australian operations. This full-time position is based in Rockingham and involves travel to operational locations in the Perth metropolitan area and north-west region.

What you'll be doing

• Overseeing technical assessments of waste acceptance against site licence criteria.
• Leading process development and optimisation for hazardous waste operations.
• Reviewing and approving risk assessments, work instructions, and technical reports prepared by Chemists.
• Providing advanced technical advice to Sales and Operations teams for customer enquiries and project scoping.
• Mentoring, training, and supervising site Chemists
• Contribute to quality assurance programs, including internal audits and compliance reviews.
• Conduct advanced sampling and oversee monitoring programs (wastewater, soils, finished products).
• Support HSEQ Manager with implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.
• Manage technical projects from scoping through to delivery, including field trials and treatment pilots.

What we're looking for

• Degree in Chemistry (minimum), postgraduate qualifications desirable.
• Significant experience in hazardous waste, hazardous chemical industry.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and develop/refine treatment processes.
• Strong knowledge of legislation and licence requirements relating to waste and hazardous chemicals.
• Proven record in mentoring or supervising technical staff.
• Experience in quality assurance, audits, and continuous improvement.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and reporting skills.
