We're looking for a highly capable
Performance Engineer
to join a fast-paced engineering environment and play a key role in ensuring scalability, reliability and exceptional system performance across complex, integrated platforms.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys deep technical work, thrives in cross-functional teams, and can confidently influence performance and architecture decisions from the earliest stages of delivery.

What You'll Work On

Performance Strategy & NFR Modelling

  • Define and model non-functional requirements with minimal direction.
  • Analyse system behaviour and translate usage patterns into realistic workload models.
  • Influence scalability and architectural decisions early in the development lifecycle.

Performance Testing & Tooling

  • Build sophisticated performance tests using
    JMeter
    ,
    K6
    , and similar tools.
  • Design and execute load, stress, soak, and spike scenarios.
  • Create efficient, reusable scripts across
    Web, API, and backend services
    using Groovy, Java, JavaScript, or Python.

Data Preparation & Test Automation

  • Identify performance test data needs and automate data provisioning.
  • Manage complex data setups across integrated systems, including refresh and masking routines.

CI/CD & Version Control

  • Integrate performance tests into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Codefresh, etc.).
  • Contribute to shift-left testing by embedding performance checkpoints earlier in delivery.
  • Work confidently with Git branching and versioning strategies.

Service Virtualisation & Stubs

  • Build moderate to complex stubs using
    Mountebank
    or
    WireMock
    to simulate upstream/downstream systems.

Monitoring, Analysis & Optimisation

  • Use tools like
    Grafana, Splunk, Dynatrace
    to monitor system behaviour during tests.
  • Build performance dashboards and write advanced Splunk queries.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis, recommend tuning fixes, and contribute to capacity planning.
  • Partner closely with architects, technical leads, and infrastructure teams on right-sizing and scaling strategies.

Technical Environment

You'll work across applications using:

  • Java/J2EE, Spring Boot, ReactJS
  • Kafka, MQ, REST APIs
  • Cloud and container platforms such as
    Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, AWS, Azure or GCP
  • SQL (medium to complex queries; stored procedures a bonus)

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to
    chaos engineering
    (Gremlin, Litmus, Chaos Mesh).
  • Understanding of
    SRE principles
    —SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, observability.
  • Experience with manual or automated deployments.
  • Active use of
    AI tools
    (Copilot, ChatGPT) to streamline testing or scripting workflows.
