About the Role:
For an interim period of an expected 3 months, the Health and Safety Manager will be responsible for the review, development, implementation and monitoring of Health and Safety management systems, to ensure the safety of staff, visitors and contractors, in line with current Health and Safety and associated legislation within the Australian facility.
Responsibilities:
- Promote a culture of change on Health & Safety emphasising achieving zero incidents.
- Monitor, evaluate and review existing, new and upcoming Health and Safety legislation and ensure that Devro has systems and procedures in place to meet legal compliance. Ensure compliance with, and implementation of all policies and procedures that impact on the delivery of effective Health and Safety systems.
- Work proactively with managers and other key staff to establish and maintain a programme of continuous improvement in the management of health and safety within their areas of responsibility, which includes conducting implementation of an effective behavioural safety programme, regular audits and monitoring that safety actions are being implemented within agreed timescales.
- Ensure that rigorous risk assessment and accident management systems are in place to enable departments to undertake risk assessment processes to identify hazards and to ensure that appropriate control measures are in place. To receive and investigate reports of incidents, determine their causes and make recommendations for improving recurrence prevention and controls.
- Liaise with occupational Health Service Staff on health surveillance where a risk assessment has identified a need, Maintain appropriate records. Ensure all workplace occupational hygiene programmes are implemented and maintained.
- Provide staff with comprehensive and relevant information and training on Health and Safety systems and procedures, including advising on equipment purchase and workplace practices.
- Prepare and coordinate health and safety audits, behavioural safety audits and safety inspections to ensure compliance.
About You:
- Strong communicator with good verbal and written skills.
- Influencing skills within the organisation and with external safety bodies.
- Document management in ensuring appropriate records are maintained in compliance with legal requirements.
- Qualified to degree level in occupational safety.
- Chartered Safety Professional (or working towards).
- Ability to interpret and apply national health and safety legislation and policy.
Experience:
- A minimum of five years' experience of managing Health & Safety within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience of chemical management ergonomics.
