About us
Legal Aid NSW helps people with their legal problems. We can help people with most areas criminal law, family law and every day civil law legal issues. We give legal advice, help at court and do family dispute resolution. We can do this over the telephone or at one of our 28 offices.
About the role
To work collaboratively with EIU team members to provide support to clients with complex social and legal needs in family law or care and protection matters. This includes referral assistance, risk assessment, safety planning and engagement with other government and non-government services. To provide clinical expertise to address the socio-legal needs of high priority clients including victims of domestic and family violence, people experiencing mental health issues and people with complex trauma histories.
About you
You ideally bring experience working in legal or regulatory settings, along with a sound understanding of family law and care and protection frameworks. Comfortable operating within a statewide team, you are confident supporting clients and collaborating with colleagues remotely, using clear communication and sound judgment to navigate complex situations. Your ability to work independently while staying connected to team goals ensures consistent, high-quality service delivery across geographic boundaries.
Your practice is grounded in trauma-informed principles, cultural sensitivity, and a commitment to client wellbeing. You thrive in inter-disciplinary environments, contributing specialist insights that complement legal strategy and regulatory processes. The essential requirements for this role
You must:
have 5 years minimum relevant experience
have Diploma Level 5 and above (minimum 2 years study)
be willing to do a Criminal Record Check and Working with Children Check
hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency (for ongoing vacancies) or a valid visa to work in Australia (for temporary vacancies)
The role requires regular travel in metropolitan Sydney, and potentially some regional travel. The successful applicant must either hold a valid NSW driver's license/or have ability to travel efficiently via public transport to fulfil the requirements of the role
The Family Law Division have several roles where it is a statutory obligation for staff to hold a valid Working with Children Check. You will be required to provide your Working with Children Check details prior to commencement in any role requiring the check.

Target Question 1: Share an example of how you have implemented trauma-informed principles when supporting vulnerable clients with complex needs through a remote service model.
Target Question 2: Briefly describe a time you worked within an inter-disciplinary team to support a vulnerable client, preferably within the legal or regulatory sectors.
We may use this recruitment to create a talent pool for similar ongoing or temporary vacancies we have over the next 18 months.
