About Collections Enhancement Project
The Collection Enhancement Project (CEP) is a 10-year project that is digitising the AM's collections. Digitisation activities include digital registration of collection material in the collection management system, digitisation – imaging of cultural collection materials, barcoding collections, supporting community consultation activities and enhancing collection documentation and metadata.
About the team
The AM's Cultural Collection Enhancement team are focused program of specialised works across six collections: (1) Pasifika Collections (2) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islands Collections; (3) Aboriginal Archaeology Collections; (4) World Cultures Collection; (5) Archives; and (6) Rare Books Library.
About the Role/s
We are looking for one Collection Digitisation Officer - Archaeology and one Collection Digitisation Officer - Registration. We are also looking to build a talent pool for these roles as well as the Collection Digitisation Officer – Imaging for future workplace opportunities at the Australian Museum.
The Collection Digitisation Officers are engaged in one of the three following core digitisation specialist activities.
- The Collection Digitisation Officer - Archaeology creates and enhances high quality digital registration and catalogue records of Aboriginal archaeological collection items using a range of collection registration equipment and associated tools and software. The Collection Digitisation Officer - Archaeology facilitates the delivery of collection enhancement mostly via documentation enhancement but at times also via production of digital imaging and photographic services as part of the Collection Enhancement Project.
- The Collection Digitisation Officer - Imaging create high quality digital assets of collection items using a range of photographic/imaging/video equipment and associated software. Digital assets produced enhance collection management and Museum functionality, support First Nations cultural continuity, and will deliver electronic access to the collections and support long term preservation of the collection and digital collection.
- The Collection Digitisation Officer - Registration creates and enhances high quality digital registration, catalogue and multimedia records of cultural collection items using a range of collection registration equipment and associated tools and software. The Collection Digitisation Officer - Registration also facilitates the delivery of high-quality digital assets of collection items and photographic services as part of the Collection Enhancement Project.
Employment Status:
- Clerk Grade 3/4
- Fixed term, up to June 2029
- Full time 35 hours per week

You will be paid a competitive annual salary $84,659 - $92,701, plus employer's contribution to superannuation (currently 12%) and annual leave loading.
About you
We are seeking two experienced Collection Digitisation Officers to work within the Cultural Collection Enhancement team of the CEP.
Knowledge & Experience
- Knowledge of professional museum and/or digitisation practice.
- Understanding of culturally appropriate collection practices and cultural awareness to perform work processes that are culturally aware and appropriate. Capacity to embed Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property protocols (ICIP) into work practice.
- Experience with colour management, digital files, metadata and use of capture and processing software on both Windows and Macintosh platforms and/or Museum registration and/or Aboriginal Archaeology.
Essential requirements
- Tertiary level qualifications, or demonstrable equivalent professional experience, in a relevant discipline
The role holder must be prepared to travel between the various sites which holds the AM collections, and to external stakeholders as needed to support the work of the First Nations Collections teams.
