Purpose of the role
Westside Christian College Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) is seeking an experienced, passionate and dedicated Educator to join our enthusiastic team In this role, you will support the planning and delivery of engaging programs for children aged 4–12 during before school, after school, and vacation care sessions. You'll create a safe, inclusive, and fun environment that fosters learning and development through play.
About the position
Westside Christian College OSHC is a beautiful Reggio Emilia inspired centre operating in Goodna and accommodating up to 130 children. We are passionate about providing a safe, nurturing and calm environment for all children and are motivated to scaffold children's learning through play.
We operate out of our own purpose-built large building with kitchen, storage room and toilet facilities. We have access to a playground, sandpit, oval and undercover areas. We also have access to additional classrooms and the school library during vacation care.
We employ the College's Christian ethos and CLASS values (Christlikeness, Learning, Achievement, Social Responsibility, and Service) in our OSHC service. We have an outstanding relationship with the College and work closely with teaching, support and administration staff to ensure all children's needs are met daily.
Responsibilities
As an OSHC Educator, you'll work closely with our OSHC leadership team to create a safe, fun, and engaging environment for children aged 4–12 years. Your responsibilities will include:
- Actively supervising children across indoor, outdoor, and excursion environments.
- Assisting in the delivery of Before School, After School and Vacation Care programs.
- Supporting children through play-based learning and positive interactions.
- Preparing and serving food using safe food-handling practices.
- Helping maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment.
- Contributing ideas and reflections to continually improve our program.
- Building strong, positive relationships with children, families, co-workers and the wider school community.
Our service operates Monday to Friday during school terms and holidays:
- Before School Care:6:30 am – 8:30 am (shifts up to 8:45am)
- After School Care:2:00pm – 6:00pm (shifts from 1:30pm – 6:00pm)
- Vacation Care / Pupil Free Days:6:30 am – 6:00 pm (variety of long shifts available between these hours).
The experienced educator we are looking for must be available for at least 3 afternoon shifts per week and at least 3 days per week each vacation care.
Requirements of the position
The successful candidate will have a genuine passion for working with young children and an enthusiasm for contributing to our programs while fostering a safe, nurturing and calm environment.
The successful applicant will have:
- Experience working with children, aged 4–12-year-old, in an OSHC (or similar) environment
- Experience working with children with additional needs and ability to display supportive calming behaviour management skills
- Hold or be working towards a Certificate III or higher in a child-care related qualification (OSHC focus preferred)
- Current paid Blue Card (working with children check)
- Current First Aid, CPR, Asthma & Anaphylaxis Management Training Certificates (or be willing to obtain)
- Comprehensive knowledge of My Time, Our Place 2.0 and the learning outcomes
- Understanding of the National Quality Framework (NQF) and National Quality Standards (NQS)
- Understanding of the assessment and rating process
- Knowledge of child protection requirements
- Safe food-handling skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organisation and time management skills.
Prior experience working in a position of added responsibility (Responsible Person in Charge) in an OSHC service would be highly regarded.

Position hours and salary
The salary for this position will depend on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant but will be within the Level 2 or 3 pay scale for School Officers in the College's Enterprise Agreement.
Multiple positions are available as casual arrangements. The final arrangement of hours will be discussed with successful applicants, however it is expected that work will include split shifts, given the nature of the OSHC program operating hours both before and after school.
