Platform Engineer – Cloud Data Platforms

  • 6 month contract with likely extension

Our client is seeking a Platform Engineer to take ownership of the stability, performance and security of their cloud data ecosystem. This role sits at the heart of ensuring the business receives accurate, reliable data every single day. You'll strengthen the platform through smarter monitoring, automation-first practices and strong operational discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Lead incident response (P1–P3), participate in on-call rotation, and drive RCAs and post-incident reviews.
  • Keep runbooks, capacity plans and error budgets current and effective.
  • Plan and execute maintenance windows with minimal disruption.
  • Build logging, metrics, traces, dashboards and alerts across core data tools
  • Automate recovery workflows including retries, backfills, schema-drift detection and freshness checks.
  • Manage cost attribution, reporting and ongoing efficiency improvements.
  • Operate RBAC, RLS/CLS, environment segregation and maintain audit trails.
  • Support governance, policy adherence and access reviews.
  • Own CI/CD pipelines, deployments and environment promotion.
  • Maintain Terraform modules and enforce structured change control.
  • Run dbt/Elementary tests, freshness monitoring and anomaly detection on critical data elements.
  • Work with Engineering, Reporting, Security and vendors to resolve issues, plan releases and meet SLAs.

Required Skillset

  • Experience managing cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS or GCP) with defined uptime and batch SLAs.
  • Strong SRE/operations skills: monitoring, incident response, on-call, and automation-first mindset.
  • Hands-on CI/CD experience with Git-based workflows (ADO, GitHub, GitLab).
  • IaC skills using Terraform for consistent environment and change management.
  • Understanding of data security, RBAC, secrets management and private networking.
  • Clear and concise communication with technical and business stakeholders.
