Intelligence Officer

The Role

As an Intelligence Officer, you will work effectively as a member of a team, enjoy flexible working arrangements and undertake a wide variety of work across the division, involving providing strategic and tactical intelligence support to operational education and enforcement services.

A key function of the role is to provide actionable intelligence from the collection, evaluation and analysis of information relating to the responsibilities of the Agriculture Victoria Division of the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) and the Game Management Authority (GMA) Intelligence officer's work closely with other intelligence professionals, operational teams and external partner agencies to ensure that intelligence outputs are supporting strategic and operational needs.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Responsible for accurately updating and maintaining computer-based data systems in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining a high level of awareness and understanding of the Biosecurity and Game Management compliance environment, including new and emerging threats and criminal activity, and assist in identifying and targeting opportunities and priorities for prevention, enforcement and intelligence.
  • Assist with the collection and analysis of information from the community, compliance operations and investigations and participate in Biosecurity and Agriculture Services and Game Management intelligence collection processes for tactical, operational and strategic planning purposes.
  • Assist in the development and dissemination of actionable intelligence products including intelligence briefs, operational alerts, target profiles, strategic assessments and market profiles.
  • Provide high quality support and timely criminal intelligence to Biosecurity and Agriculture Services and Game Management Officers and investigators.
  • Provide intelligence support to operational, educational and enforcement activities and develop and maintain knowledge of the operating environment.

The Team

The position of the Intelligence Officer will work within Statewide Investigations brand, which sits within the Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) group.

As a statutory authority, the VFA has the responsibility of managing Victoria's fisheries resources in a coordinated and strategic way to ensure their ongoing sustainability, while supporting the value they deliver to the commercial, recreational, aquaculture and Indigenous fishing sectors. The VFA works with government and stakeholders to optimise the social, cultural and economic benefits of Victoria's fisheries and aquaculture industries, while promoting sustainable and responsible practices.

The VFA supports the development of sustainable recreational and commercial fishing and aquaculture activities in Victoria and delivers recreational fishing and boating infrastructure projects and programs. The VFA is committed to getting more people fishing by creating opportunities for people of all abilities to try fishing; to making it safer, cheaper and easier for the boating and fishing communities to get out on the water; and to making local seafood more readily available for everyone to enjoy.

The VFA has employees located in the Melbourne CBD, metropolitan Melbourne and across regional Victoria.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and experience:
