Microbiology Laboratory Manager

Are you an experienced microbiologist with a passion for quality and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards? Our warm and welcoming contract testing laboratory is seeking a full time Microbiology Laboratory Manager to join our expanding team. In this role you'll play a crucial part in building and upholding the integrity of our recently introduced microbiology department, while contributing to a positive and collaborative work environment.

Responsibilities:

1. Oversee, manage and participate in all aspects of our microbiology testing services including product testing, environmental monitoring, method validation, reporting of results and write-up of reports, while ensuring strict adherence to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and TGA/APVMA regulations.
2. Lead the microbiology process improvement. Develop, implement and maintain comprehensive standard operating procedures (SOPs), methods and effective quality control measures to ensure accurate and reliable microbiology testing results. Perform method optimisation to support client's requirements and/or expectations.
3. Lead and mentor our small dedicated team of microbiologists, providing technical guidance and training to complete their assigned tasks, and support to foster their growth and development.
4. Build strong relationships with clients, regulatory authorities, and internal stakeholders, understanding their unique needs and delivering exceptional customer service.
5. Evaluate and validate new testing methodologies, equipment, and technologies to continuously improve our laboratory's capabilities.
6. Conduct root cause analyses and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) in a collaborative and constructive manner, addressing deviations or quality issues.
7. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, guidelines, and industry standards, maintaining accurate documentation and record-keeping practices.
8. Participate in internal and external audits, inspections, and proficiency testing programs, demonstrating our laboratory's competency and commitment to quality.
9. Manage laboratory resources efficiently while maintaining the highest quality standards, fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment.

The successful applicant will have the following:

• Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology or related science.
• Strong understanding of regulatory guidelines and standards in the pharmaceutical / complementary medicines industry.
• A minimum of 5 years experience in a microbiology laboratory.
• A minimum of 2 years in a TGA / GMP laboratory.
• High proficiency in writing technical documents and procedures.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
• Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities.
• Team Player.
• Experienced in a leadership or supervisory role.
• Knowledge in probiotic testing, cleanroom requirements and sterility testing would be advantageous.
