We are currently recruiting a Vegetation Officer to join our team in Dungog. Surrounding depots such as Stroud and Bulahdelah will also be considered.

This role reports to the Program Manager Vegetation Operations and plays a key role in supporting the delivery of Essential Energy's Vegetation Management program across assigned geographical areas. The Vegetation Officer is responsible for conducting audits, assessing vegetation risks, and supporting contractor and customer engagement to ensure safe and compliant vegetation practices around our network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine audits of vegetation inspections and works to ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards (e.g. AS4373)
  • Report non-compliant work and assist in incident investigations
  • Assess vegetation risks adjacent to the distribution network, including fall-in tree assessments
  • Coordinate site activities during unplanned events and outages
  • Engage with landowners, councils, and customers to facilitate vegetation maintenance
  • Provide arboricultural advice and support contractor inductions
  • Maintain accurate vegetation records and contribute to process improvements
  • Promote safety, equity, diversity, and inclusion across all operations

About You

As a Vegetation Officer, you will bring strong arboricultural knowledge, stakeholder engagement skills, and a commitment to safety and compliance. You will be experienced in vegetation management and capable of working both independently and collaboratively.

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • General Construction Induction Training (White Card)
  • Driver's licence

Required Qualifications/Skills

  • Experience in utility vegetation management and arboriculture practices
  • Understanding of electricity distribution networks
  • Experience with ICT hardware and business systems
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment
  • Organised and pragmatic with good problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to undertake further training
