About SEPHU

The South East Public Health Unit (SEPHU) is part of Victoria's landmark reform of public health delivery. Serving a catchment of 1.8 million people across 11 local government areas, SEPHU plays a vital role in protecting and promoting community health through communicable disease control, outbreak management, prevention programs, and community engagement.

Led by Monash Health, SEPHU works with health services, local government, and state-wide partners to strengthen Victoria's public health system and respond effectively to current and emerging health challenges. SEPHU's core teams include:

• Health Protection and Communicable Disease Prevention & Control (CDPC)

• Health Prevention and Partnerships

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Public Health Registrar to join our SEPHU team for a 12-month term. This role offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience across a wide range of public health functions, while contributing to SEPHU's strategic priorities and research agenda.

As a Registrar, you will:

• Support the daily management of cases, contacts, and outbreaks of notifiable conditions.
• Provide medical advice to operational teams under the supervision of Public Health Physicians.
• Participate in epidemiological investigations, health promotion initiatives, and disease prevention projects.
• Undertake research and evaluation activities aligned with SEPHU's priorities.
• Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and external partners to strengthen public health outcomes.

This role provides rich opportunities for developing competencies required for advanced training in public health medicine, with exposure to both communicable and non-communicable disease prevention.

About You

You are a medical practitioner with a strong interest in public health and a commitment to building a career in this field. You thrive in fast-paced, multidisciplinary environments and bring a proactive, collaborative approach to your work.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Registration as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA.
• Eligibility to commence, or current enrolment in, Advanced Training in Public Health Medicine with the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine.
• Relevant training or experience in public health, hospitals, or clinical medicine.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within teams.
• A proactive, adaptable approach and commitment to continuous learning.

What you need

• Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
• Appropriate health professional tertiary qualifications
• Fellowship of the RACS or equivalent
• Working with Children's Certificate
• Membership with RACS and ASOHNS

The incumbent must complete the Credentialing and Scope of Practice process prior to appointment and commencement. This will be reviewed on a regular basis. As part of our selection process, you may be invited by email to participate in an on-camera video interview.
