Position Description
John Wollaston Anglican Community School (JWACS) is seeking an innovative, creative and collaborative educational leader to join our future-focused school community as Head of Learning Area – The Arts. This is a full-time, ongoing position commencing at the beginning of the 2026 academic year.
In this middle leadership role, you will report to the Dean of Teaching and Learning and lead The Arts Learning Area, with dedicated time release for leadership duties alongside your teaching responsibilities. We are seeking a candidate with a solid foundation in Drama, as this will be the primary area of teaching. You will lead a creative and passionate team of educators across Music, Visual Arts, Dance and Drama, fostering a culture of artistic excellence, innovation, and collaboration. Your leadership will inspire staff to explore contemporary pedagogies, integrate emerging technologies, and design learning experiences that nurture creativity, critical thinking, and self-expression.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate educator to lead curriculum innovation, mentor staff, and foster excellence in teaching and learning across the Arts.

We are seeking an individual who:
- Actively supports the Mission, Vision and Ethos and Core Values of AngliSchools and John Wollaston Anglican Community School.
- Actively supports a child safety culture.
- Demonstrates expertise in the content and structure of The Arts curriculum, with a strong understanding of contemporary pedagogy and effective strategies for monitoring and assessing student progress and achievement.
- Has the ability to lead and support staff across The Arts disciplines, fostering collaboration, professional growth and high-quality teaching practices.
- Demonstrates capacity to model excellence in teaching within their subject area and modelling the professional attributes and instructional expertise of a highly accomplished practitioner.
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of contemporary pastoral care issues affecting students within the school, local community, and broader society, with a commitment to supporting student wellbeing and fostering a safe, inclusive learning environment.
- Demonstrates strong administrative and organisational capabilities, including excellent written and verbal communication skills and effective time management to support the smooth operation of learning area responsibilities.
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills, with an inclusive and approachable manner, strong listening abilities, and the capacity to build and maintain positive, respectful relationships with students, staff, parents, and carers.
- Bachelor of Education or a degree qualification supported by a Post Graduate Diploma of Education.
- Registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia.
- Hold a current Working with Children Card or be willing to obtain.
