Where you will be working
Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital is a heritage listed building steeped in history, with a legacy of nursing and medical firsts to its credit and has paved the way in many clinical areas - both nationally and internationally. Sydney Hospital is Australia's first hospital, with origins dating back to the early establishment of Sydney.

Our specialist services attract patients from all over NSW. Clinical services provided are a 24hr Emergency Department, and an outpatient departments (eyes, general and hands). Clinical wards include Eyes, Hands, ENT and General Medicine as well as the Peri-Operative Suite.

It is located in the hub of the Central Business District, close to the cafe, restaurant and shopping precinct. Our city's famous tourist attractions such as Centre Point Tower, the Domain, NSW Art Gallery, the Botanical Gardens, Mrs Macquarie's Chair, the Opera House and Circular Quay are only short walks away.

Sydney and Sydney Hospital is easily accessible by public transport:

• directly across the road from Martin Place and St James train stations
• buses
• light rail on George Street
• ferry terminal at Circular Quay
• close proximity to Sydney Metro

There is also an eight-level car park under the hospital, accessed by Hospital Road, and managed by Metro Parking, with subsidised parking for staff.

What You'll Be Doing
The Nursing and Midwifery – Our Strategy for Transforming Person Centred Cultures guides our profession in the development of effective person-centred practice and healthful cultures within SESLHD. We advocate for shared decision-making, collaborative relationships, compassionate and person-centred leadership, and supporting innovative practices.

As an Assistant in Nursing in SESLHD, you will be an integral part of the interdisciplinary team in the provision of person-centred care; and support other nurses and care roles. You will strive to ensure that the people who receive healthcare experience exceptional care that is person-centred, safe, high quality and compassionate.

You will be part of a team that strives to support each other to reach our potential, focus on what matters most and continue to be innovative in approaches to practice.

As an Assistant in Nursing, you will retain responsibility for your own actions and remain accountable to the Registered Nurse for all allocated functions. You will always work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.

You will be encouraged to further develop your practice with the professional development opportunities available.

Selection Criteria

• Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (HLT33115) or equivalent OR 2nd or 3rd Year Undergraduate Nursing Student.
• Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Effective time management skills.
• Computer skills including the ability to use a variety of office and health related software application.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control standard precautions.
