Male Support Worker Required – Part-Time Role Supporting a Young Person with Autism

We are seeking a reliable, patient, and enthusiastic male support worker to join our team and provide in-home support to a young male participant with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD Level 2).

This is a rewarding part-time role focused on building life skills, independence, and confidence in a positive, structured environment. The participant has a keen interest in Lego building, which can be incorporated into sessions to make activities engaging and fun.

Key Details:

  • Hours: Up to 4 evenings per week (3 hours each, typically after school) +
  • 5 hours on Saturdays weekly
  • Location: In the participant's home (location to be discussed with successful applicants)
  • Start Date: As soon as possible

About the Role:

You will provide one-to-one support to help the young person develop essential daily living skills, including:

  • Assisting with homework completion
  • Supporting household chores
  • Teaching practical skills such as preparing simple snacks, tying shoelaces, and road safety awareness
  • Encouraging reading and literacy activities
  • Engaging in interests like Lego building to promote focus and social interaction

There is minimal personal care involved, but the successful candidate must be comfortable occasionally assisting with tasks such as dressing if required.

The focus is on positive reinforcement, patience, and helping the participant thrive in a calm and supportive setting.

About You:

  • Male applicants only (this is a genuine occupational requirement due to the participant's needs and comfort with personal care assistance)
  • Experience working with children or young people with autism or similar disabilities is highly desirable (but full training can be provided for the right candidate)
  • Patient, reliable, and enthusiastic with a positive attitude
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build rapport
  • Comfortable working independently in a family home
  • Current driver's licence and reliable transport preferred
  • Must have (or be willing to obtain) relevant checks (e.g., Working with Children Check, Police Check)
