Looking for a refreshing change? We at Sheltons are seeking a Tax Manager for our office in Barangaroo, Sydney, Australia.

You will be working with a small team in modern offices in Barangaroo, in a very international environment.

We at Sheltons Accountants & Business Advisers (Sheltons Group) work exclusively with internationally operating businesses.

Sheltons Group is a well-established 25-year old firm with offices in Sydney, Copenhagen, Malta, London and Singapore - and soon other countries.

You will be part of a stimulating environment and would work closely with a great team of wonderful colleagues from other Sheltons' offices.

Position

  • Tax Manager

When and where

  • Commencement – ASAP
  • Level 24, Three International Towers, 300 Barangaroo Avenue, Sydney, NSW 2000

Remuneration

  • Very competitive salary
  • Performance review with possible salary increases each 6 months
  • Additional limited profit share available after the first year

The role

The successful candidate would typically be expected to be involved in matters such as the following:

  • Supervising the preparation of and review of company returns for a wide range of Australian subsidiaries of overseas-based corporate clients, and for a small number of Australian permanent establishments

  • Review of Business Activity Statements (BASs), Instalment Activity Statements (IASs), Fringe Benefits Tax returns (FBT), and a limited number of tax returns for individuals

  • Advice on GST, transfer pricing and R&D - with the more complex cases outsourced to other firms
  • Assisting the compliance team with payroll tax, FBT and other employee-related tax issues

  • Preparation and review of tax-effect accounting calculations (limited)

  • Prepare and review year-end tax planning reports (limited)
  • Preparation of tax advice on Australian issues, and, especially with Ned Shelton, on Australian international tax matters, such as tax treaty, withholding tax and permanent establishment issues
  • Eventually, as we win more Australian-based clients operating overseas, advising the businesses or their Australia accounting firms on a range of 'outbound' Australian international tax issues, such as foreign tax offsets, Australian treatment of overseas permanent establishments, residence of overseas companies, CFC, and a range of other areas

Being a small team, your role will likely include a broader range of tasks than you might experience in a large accounting firm. You would of course have close client contact but you would also support our team of accountants with your general business and non-tax knowledge and contacts; we would hope that you could also contribute to the fine-tuning and development of our policies and processes; your input regarding training options and choices for colleagues - and tax-related software - would be appreciated.

As we grow, you would have the opportunity to develop in a more focused area or areas. You will receive considerable training on our systems and procedures from colleagues, and as you master our systems and procedures, we will expect you to be both an advocate of its compliance but also an active contributor to its constant evolution - as we continually learn to become more effective and agile, as would be expected of a dynamic growing international organisation.
