Location: Sydney

Salary Range: AUD Annual Gross

Infosys is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Consultant to join our DNA team. As a Senior AI Engineer, you will blend strong backend engineering skills with practical AI/LLM expertise to design and deliver high-quality, AI-enabled software. You will lead or collaborate with a cross-functional team of software engineers, DevOps engineers, QA, and product owners to build robust distributed systems that incorporate modern AI capabilities, particularly Large Language Models (LLMs).

You must be adept at Java (and possibly other JVM-based languages) for enterprise-grade systems, comfortable with Python for AI/ML workflows (e.g., PyTorch), and proficient in cloud deployment strategies. Beyond that, you'll integrate LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Cohere, etc.), leverage retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) frameworks, and decide when to fine-tune models or use them as-is. As a power user of AI-based tools, you'll be expected to optimize your own coding through AI assistants, while also guiding best practices for prompt engineering, LLM orchestration, and system reliability.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Architecture:

  • Architect and implement high-throughput APIs that integrate with and leverage AI services
  • Make key architectural decisions on API security, scalability, reliability, and how to incorporate LLMs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) into our platform
  • Lead integration solutions using Spring Boot 3.x, reactive patterns (WebFlux), and API gateways (Apigee) while mentoring other developers
  • Champion improvements in integration best practices (performance, security) with a focus on enabling AI-driven applications and ensuring efficient content retrieval workflows where relevant

Engineering & AI

  • Collaborate with AI and platform engineers to design APIs for model inferencing (e.g., hosting endpoints for LLM queries, vector search, or other AI-driven tasks)
  • Implement secure API patterns (OAuth2, JWT, etc.) to protect sensitive data, particularly when fine-tuning or retrieving embeddings for AI models
  • Leverage Spring Boot 3.x, Spring Security, Spring WebFlux to build production-grade solutions that can scale with AI usage
  • Drive observability (monitoring, alerting, logging) and reliability practices, ensuring resilience and smooth user experiences
  • Good grasp on generative model evaluation metrics for different use cases

Cross-functional Leadership:

  • Partner with Product Owners to shape technical requirements and best approaches for AI-enabled product features, translating business goals into architectural designs
  • Lead API design reviews and architecture discussions focusing on AI integration and alignment with our broader microservices ecosystem
  • Foster a culture of knowledge sharing, especially around LLM usage, integration patterns, and AI code assistants (GitHub Copilot, etc.)
  • Drive alignment with Platform Engineering and MLOps practices, ensuring automated deployment of AI-enabled services

Decision Making Scope

You'll drive:

  • Architectural direction for integration patterns that incorporate AI components (e.g., RAG, models, agents)
  • Technology choices for new solutions around Gen AI usage, vector databases, and AI frameworks (SpringAI, LangGraph, LangChain, CrewAI)
  • API standards and security patterns
  • SLA and performance requirements

Technical Requirements

Must Have:

  • 8+ years of commercial software development, focusing on integration/APIs
  • Expert knowledge of Spring Framework ecosystem (particularly Boot 3.x, Security, WebFlux)
  • Mastery of API security, including OAuth2, JWT, and API key management
  • Track record of delivering high-performance, secure system designs
  • Strong command of AWS, Azure or GCP cloud services
  • Experience consuming LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.), orchestrating prompts or agentic workflows
  • Familiarity with RAG (retrieval-augmented generation), term/embedding-based search
  • Daily usage of AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to speed up development workflows

Nice to Have:

  • Real-time data processing and streaming architecture experience
  • Hosting model endpoints using bedrock or similar
  • Graph API implementation experience
  • Experience with Kafka or similar message brokers

Skills and Abilities

Technical Excellence:

  • Advanced system architecture and API design capabilities
  • Expert-level API security implementation knowledge
  • Deep understanding of cloud-native architectures
  • Strong performance optimization and troubleshooting skills
  • Advanced DevOps and automation practices

Leadership & Impact:

  • Proven track mentoring and guiding developers
  • Strong stakeholder management capabilities
  • Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Clear technical documentation abilities
  • Experience driving technical initiatives across teams
