Employment Type: Permanent Full Time
Position Classification: Social Worker Level 3
Location: Singleton District Hospital
Hours Per Week: 38
Requisition ID: REQ612712
Applications Close: Thursday, 30th October 2025
Where you'll be working:
Located on the traditional lands of the Wonnarua/Wanaruah people, Singleton is a welcoming riverside town in the Hunter Valley, just 70 km from Newcastle and under three hours from Sydney. It offers the perfect blend of community spirit, natural beauty and regional lifestyle.
Singleton District Hospital has been at the heart of the community since 1907 and continues to deliver a wide range of services from its original site, including emergency care, surgery, maternity, renal dialysis, palliative care, allied health and community programs.
In this sole Social Work role, you won't be working in isolation - you're part of a connected, supportive and multidisciplinary Allied Health team committed to high-quality, patient-centred care. You'll also join the broader Hunter Valley Social Work network alongside colleagues in Muswellbrook and Scone, led by the Social Work Head of Discipline. With opportunities for regular online and face-to-face engagement, you'll enjoy collaboration, shared knowledge and strong professional support.
About the role:
As the Social Worker at Singleton Hospital, you'll play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred psychosocial care across a variety of services. Your scope will include the Emergency Department, medical and surgical wards, maternity and antenatal clinics, dialysis, palliative care, child and family health, and other areas within the Singleton Health Service.
This is an autonomous role where you'll manage diverse and complex social work needs in a busy yet supportive environment. You'll build expertise across a broad range of practice areas, including NDIS, guardianship, conflict resolution, elder abuse, domestic and family violence, child protection, carer stress, grief and loss, and palliative care.
You'll also have the chance to connect beyond the hospital through involvement in collaborative networks and initiatives such as Safe Start, SAMs, interagency forums and stakeholder meetings. Professional growth is encouraged, with opportunities to contribute to quality improvement, education and ongoing learning.
You'll be well supported in this role, with strong connections across the Singleton Hospital multidisciplinary and Allied Health teams, as well as the broader Hunter Valley Social Work network. You'll be line-managed by the Social Work Head of Discipline and have access to both individual and group professional supervision on a regular basis.
There are monthly face-to-face meetings with the wider Social Work team, along with opportunities to participate in team activities and collaborative forums. You'll also have access to training and education through My Health Learning, and be encouraged to explore additional professional development opportunities as they arise.
About you:
We're looking for someone who is adaptable, flexible and collaborative in their approach to practice. You'll be confident working independently and autonomously, bringing strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to a complex and dynamic environment.
You're open to learning, growth and professional development, and you're someone who contributes to the development of the wider multidisciplinary team and health service. You thrive in a team setting, use creativity to navigate limited resources, and bring a supportive, solutions-focused mindset to your work.
Requirements:
- Bachelor in Social Work or equivalent with eligibility for membership with Australian Association of Social Work (AASW).
