We are seeking a Senior Strategic Planner - Urbanist to join our City Strategy & Design team. This role is focused on helping to create a beautiful and liveable city. You will report to the Coordinator Strategic Assessments.
About the Role
The Senior Strategic Planner will assess major development and planning proposals, contribute to planning and design policy, and review and update the planning framework. The position requires a high level of technical proficiency in assessing planning proposals and State Significant Developments, with strong negotiation and report writing skills. You will also need to be able to communicate with both internal and external stakeholders, manage specialist consultants, and prepare advice for the Local Planning Panel.
Key responsibilities include:
- Working on a variety of planning and design projects to develop and review planning policies and land use strategies.
- Leading the preparation and negotiation of Planning Agreements with applicants to achieve the best outcomes for the community.
- Assessing and preparing detailed submissions for complex State significant developments and State infrastructure projects.
- Planning and participating in community engagement activities for relevant projects.
Qualifications and Experience
- Essential Qualifications: You must have tertiary qualifications in town planning, urban design, or a related built form discipline. A current Class C driver's licence is also required.
Essential Experience:
Demonstrated experience working on planning projects with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience in preparing, negotiating, and finalizing Planning Agreements for government or private industry clients.
- A sound understanding of planning legislation, state planning policies, and planning instruments.
- Working knowledge of planning processes, including plan making, local environmental plans, and development control plans.
- Desirable Experience: Experience working in both the government and private sectors is desirable.
Work Arrangement
This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, combining in-office and work-from-home options.
