Your New Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Associate, Group Tax to join our Enablement, Transformation & Performance Division (ETP).

This role is integral to our Tax team, which provides strategic leadership and ensures Aware Super's tax compliance and governance. You will play a key part in maximising retirement outcomes for our members and ensuring the fund pays the right amount of tax.

*Please note, this role is offered as a 9-10 month Parental Leave Cover. The successful candidate will need to be based in Sydney.*

In this role, you will:

  • Assist with tax compliance obligations, including income tax returns, BAS, GST, FBT, and reporting requirements
  • Prepare tax provision reporting within financial statements
  • Review and analyse tax components for unit trusts and monitor unit pricing tax provision processes
  • Provide internal tax advice across the business and produce clear, well-documented tax advice in line with legislation and governance frameworks
  • Deliver tax technical training and input to business units as required
  • Support engagement with regulators and proactively identify opportunities to optimise tax and reduce operational risks
  • Assist in developing tax policies, process manuals, and templates for future investments
  • Build strong relationships with external tax advisors and make recommendations on outsourcing

You will help us maximise retirement outcomes for our members while ensuring Aware Super's tax profile remains strong and compliant.

In addition, you will have:

  • Minimum 6 years' experience in tax within accounting/law firms, superannuation, funds management, or banking
  • Extensive knowledge of Australian tax laws, strong research and interpretation skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving mindset, with experience using technology/data for compliance efficiencies
  • Formal tertiary qualifications in commerce, business, economics, or law (e.g., Bachelor of Commerce/Business/Economics/LLB)
  • Post-graduate qualifications in taxation/accounting (e.g., Master of Taxation/Laws, Chartered Accountant) highly regarded
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and influencing skills
  • Ability to multi-task, manage tight timelines, and demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy
  • High level of integrity and professional repute
