Position Information

Mount View High School has a strong tradition of academic, creative and performing arts and sporting success. With a student enrolment of approximately 900 students, including 23% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, the school is a proud member of the Cessnock Community of Great Public Schools (CCGPS). Aboriginal culture is highly valued and the Amarookoba centre provides a facility for tutoring, wellbeing, cultural and mentoring programs for Aboriginal students. It has a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum offering which is supported by an Academic Enrichment Program, Leos leadership development program, award winning STEM programs and quality specialist facilities including a Learning and Exhibition and Performance Centre, state of the art gymnasium, GP clinic and a wellbeing hub. Senior students have the benefit of a Senior Study Tutor, Futures Centre and opportunities to explore curricula with local secondary schools and TAFE Campuses.

Selection Criteria
  • Approved to teach Geography Years 7-10 and willingness to teach History Years 7-10 with a demonstrated ability to foster student engagement through innovative curriculum delivery and classroom management.
  • Highly developed communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to build positive relationships and work collaboratively with students, staff, families and the wider community to contribute to faculty and whole school strategic priorities.
  • Capacity to collaboratively develop and evaluate teaching and learning programs which challenge students with a diverse range of learning needs, through differentiated curriculum and dynamic assessment practices.
  • Demonstrated capacity to embed Aboriginal histories, perspectives and pedagogies within the HSIE faculty as well as willingness to support whole school initiatives to enhance the learning and wellbeing of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
