About Carer Kafe

Carer Kafe is funded to provide learning and development opportunities to statutory kinship carers, accredited foster carers and permanent carers across Victoria. The Centre, the Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency (VACCA) and Kinship Carers Victoria (KCV) have come together to form a consortium with operational oversight to guide and deliver the program.

Each member of the consortium provides distinctive expertise and knowledge; collectively the consortium is committed to a program that best serves Victorian carers, underpinned by First Nations self-determination and effective governance. Carer Kafe also has a Governance Group providing strategic oversight.

About the Position

As Program Officer at Carer Kafe, you will be an important member of our Learning & Development team, coordinating the successful organisation and delivery of Carer Kafe's Learning and Development retreats; executing Carer Kafe's communications and engagement framework and providing project support. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced project officer with strong project management skills, stakeholder engagement skills and written and verbal communication skills.

Key Accountabilities

  • Organise, coordinate and evaluate Learning and Development weekend retreats and other special events aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of carers.
  • Execute Carer Kafe's Communications and Engagement Framework including coordinating its website, social media and e-newsletters.
  • Provide a range of project support.

Key Selection Criteria

Essential:

  • Demonstrated ability to engage and communicate effectively- verbal and written- with stakeholders at various levels with a strong sense of the need to be responsive to stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and empathy with, family based out of home care in Victoria
  • Demonstrated capacity to initiate and manage workflow under pressure and tight timelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to organise and coordinate special events.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate communications and engagement work including newsletters and social media.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently, as well as being an excellent team player.

Desirable:

  • Experience within the child, youth and family services and/or community service sector.
  • Experience within Learning and Development

Qualifications

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in the community services sector, training, education or related field (or at least 5 years equivalent experience).
  • Experience in IT systems and a high level of computer literacy
