Summary:
Teknik Consulting Pty. Ltd. is seeking a skilled and proactive Systems Administrator to manage and maintain the IT infrastructure for our key client, the Victorian Government (Department of Education - Technical Support to Schools Program). The Systems Administrator will be responsible for ensuring the stable, secure, and efficient operation of the client's IT systems, including server and network infrastructure, providing technical support, and contributing to ongoing IT projects. This role requires a blend of proactive maintenance, reactive troubleshooting, and project implementation skills to support the educational environment.
Responsibilities:
- System and Network Administration:
- Manage and maintain the client's Windows Server environment, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, File Services, WSUS, and Hyper-V.
- Ensure high availability and data security of server infrastructure.
- Manage and maintain network infrastructure, including HP and Cisco switches, wireless access points, and firewalls.
- Configure and maintain VLANs for network segmentation to enhance security and performance.
- Manage Wi-Fi access and implement security policies (blacklisting/whitelisting) for internet access.
- Oversee the maintenance of UPS systems to protect critical infrastructure.

- Network Monitoring and Optimization:
- Proactively monitor network traffic, activity, capacity, and usage using tools such as Squid Proxy, Zenmap, Wireshark, and iperf.
- Analyze network performance data to identify bottlenecks, security threats, and areas for optimization.
- Implement Quality of Service (QoS) policies to prioritize critical applications.
- Recommend and implement improvements to network operations, including hardware and software upgrades, and configuration changes.

- Troubleshooting and Support:
- Provide front-line support for all network and system-related issues.
- Troubleshoot complex problems related to network connectivity, performance, and security.
- Utilize diagnostic tools and techniques to quickly identify and resolve issues, minimizing downtime.
- Provide comprehensive IT support to students and staff across a range of devices (Windows PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, iPads, Android phones).
- Resolve hardware and software issues, including software installations, updates, configurations, printing problems, projector issues, and password resets.

- Project Implementation and Management:
- Participate in and lead IT projects, such as network upgrades, printer upgrades, and system implementations.
- Analyze existing systems, design new solutions, and manage project implementation from start to finish.
- Create detailed network diagrams and documentation for projects.
- Manage hardware procurement processes.
- Develop training materials for new systems and technologies.

- Documentation and Procedures:
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation for all network hardware, software, and configurations, including network diagrams, IP address schemes, VLAN configurations, and firewall rules.
- Document troubleshooting guides, network faults, enhancements, modifications, and maintenance procedures.
- Maintain a clear record of all changes and facilitate knowledge sharing.

- Security Management:
- Implement and maintain security best practices for the IT environment.
- Regularly update and patch servers and client devices to mitigate security vulnerabilities.
- Manage CCTV systems (HikVision cameras and WiseNet software) for campus security.
- Implement and manage content filtering and caching solutions (e.g., Squid Proxy, ZScaler).

- Automation and Scripting:
- Develop PowerShell scripts to automate routine network and system administration tasks, such as user account management, software deployment, and system maintenance.
- Identify opportunities for automation to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.

Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience in systems administration, network administration, and IT support.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, File Services, WSUS, and Hyper-V.
- Expertise in managing and configuring network hardware, including HP and Cisco switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
- Proficiency in network monitoring and analysis tools (e.g., Squid Proxy, Zenmap, Wireshark, iperf).
- Experience with VLAN configuration, routing protocols, and network security principles.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in complex IT environments.
- Experience with virtualization technologies (Hyper-V).
- Familiarity with security practices, patching, and vulnerability management.
- Experience with scripting and automation, particularly with PowerShell.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills.
- Ability to manage IT projects and work independently.
- Experience in providing IT support to end-users across a range of devices and software applications.
- Familiarity with content filtering solutions (e.g., ZScaler) is desirable.
- Experience in an educational environment or supporting similar organizations is advantageous.
Experience:
- Demonstrated experience in a Systems Administrator or similar role.
- Experience working in Australia is preferred.
- Experience with projects such as network upgrades, server implementations, and system migrations.
