The East Bedarra Body Corporate is seeking a capable, self-sufficient couple to take on caretaking duties for our small, private island community on Bedarra Island — a tropical sanctuary just 6km off the coast of Mission Beach in Far North Queensland.

This is a rare lifestyle opportunity to live off-grid, surrounded by pristine natural beauty, while applying your skills to support and safeguard a truly unique environment. It's perfect for a hands-on, solutions-focused couple who take pride in their work and enjoy variety in their days.


About the Role:

  • 15 paid hours per week of caretaking and maintenance (for the Body Corporate)
  • Full-time island residency required – you'll be the community's friendly eyes and ears, assisting with general upkeep and security
  • Includes a fully furnished, solar-powered 1-bedroom home

Ideal Candidates Will Have:

  • A suitable private boat for regular transit to/from the mainland

  • A broad, practical skillset, including:

  • Use of petrol-powered tools (chainsaws, whipper snippers, leaf blowers)

  • Familiarity with solar power systems and lead-acid battery maintenance
  • Handyman experience and general property upkeep
  • Maintenance of walking tracks, water runoff systems, and minor construction works
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a calm, can-do attitude
  • Excellent written and digital communication

Highly Desirable:

  • Experience in housekeeping or hospitality – many residents host guests from time to time, so attention to presentation and care is highly valued
  • Previous off-grid or remote living experience

  • A current Police Check (required before commencement)
