Shark Bay Salt Pty Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsui & Co. Ltd, which is one of the worlds most diversified trading, investment and services enterprises. We own and operate two salt fields in Western Australia – Onslow Salt and Shark Bay Resources. Currently Onslow Salt are producing 2.7 million tonnes a year with exports predominantly to the Asian markets.
Life in Onslow:
Onslow, located on the pristine northwest coast of Western Australia, is known for its relaxed atmosphere and stunning natural surroundings; though relatively remote with a population of around 1,000 people, having local amenities, it remains a popular spot for fishing, boating, and outdoor activities.
The Role:
The duties of the role will include but are not limited to:
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical faults in systems such as highway road transport and heavy earth moving equipment.
- Conducting routine maintenance and major/minor breakdown diagnostic and repair work on highway road transport, Belly Dumpers, Trucks and Trailers, heavy earthmoving mobile equipment and ancillary fleet.
- Respond promptly to mechanical breakdowns to minimize disruptions and support production continuity.
- Install and commission new machinery and equipment; modify existing systems to enhance safety, reliability, and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with trades, operators, and maintenance teams to coordinate large-scale shutdowns and scheduled maintenance activities.
- Use diagnostic tools and techniques to identify mechanical issues, document findings, and recommend repairs or replacements.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, including parts usage, service reports, inspection logs, and schedules.
- Uphold safety-first principles, complying with all relevant health, safety, and environmental standards, policies, and procedures.
About You:
- Current Mechanical Trade Qualification, with post trade experience.
- 3 + years experience in maintenance of prime movers and trailers, with a strong preference for Kenworth and Scania; proven ability in troubleshooting and fault finding.
- Solid experience with heavy earthmoving equipment, particularly CAT and Komatsu, is essential.
- Western Australian Drivers Licence
- High Risk Work Licence - desirable
- Working in a remote location
- Ability to use hand and power tools, diagnostics and mechanical tooling
- Team player with great communication and safety knowledge.
