Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.
Hey, hello, hiya, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte
Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.
Where and how you can work
Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.
What you'd be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
Lead proactive investigations into account takeovers, coordinated account abuse, bot activity, and emerging threats targeting account integrity.
Collaborate on defining and implement metrics (e.g. ATO rates, detection efficacy, false positives) that help quantify risk posture and guide abuse mitigation strategies.
Develop threat detection alerts, anomaly signals, and logging strategies to enable early abuse identification.
Collaborate across engineering, product, and operations to shape end-to-end mitigations and recommend scalable controls.
Partner with analytics engineers to ensure threat metrics are reliable, visible, and segment-able across user tiers and abuse methods.
Drive post-incident reviews, support threat modeling for new features, and maintain knowledge bases for common and novel attack vectors.
Contribute to T&S tooling and platform development for fraud/abuse detection and mitigation.
You're probably a match if
You have 5+ years of experience in security engineering, abuse prevention, or Trust & Safety, with a proven record of impact.
You demonstrate the ability to conduct deep-dive investigations and distill complex threat findings into clear, stakeholder-aligned insights.
You are familiar with product telemetry, detection signals, and the design of abuse-resilient systems.
You are comfortable writing and reviewing code in languages such as Python, Java, or equivalent.
You exercise strong judgment and autonomy in navigating uncertainty, with a track record of influencing strategic decisions through security investigations.
You bring strong technical skills in SQL, log analysis, metrics definition, and basic statistical reasoning.
You may have bonus experience working closely with data scientists, analytics engineers, or in fraud/risk analytics contexts.
You have hands-on experience using AI in your work to drive greater impact
About the team
The Trust & Safety (T&S) Group vision is to make Canva the world's most trusted company for safe design. To safeguard our community, our T&S engineering teams build technologies to protect user safety (including but not limited to their account, content, data, and privacy) and to prevent, detect, and mitigate abuse and fraud that could compromise the trust people have in Canva, such as unacceptable content, bots, account takeovers, and other abuse vectors.
As a Senior Security Engineer focused on Account Integrity and Abuse Intelligence, you'll lead investigations, design detection strategies, and build scalable, data-driven defenses against evolving threats. You'll work at the intersection of security engineering, abuse analytics, and product trust, helping Canva stay one step ahead of attackers.
This role is ideal for someone who combines deep security expertise with strong analytical thinking skills, capable of both building signals and surfacing the insights that inform strategic controls.
