About the role
The Community Based Suicide Prevention (CBSP) activity aims to improve support and service coordination for youth at risk of suicide with a focus on youth post self-harm.
Responsibilities
- Support Individuals with suicide intent;
- Develop safety plans and undertake goal setting with the Individual;
- Work with family and friends of the Individual to establish support networks;
- Assist with connection to vocational supports and recovery focussed activities;
- Establish credibility and trust within the community as an integral part of the local system;
- Deliver accessible and flexible engagement via face to face, phone or virtual modalities, including the provision of Services in the community and primary care setting;
- Provide professional advice and support to headspace clinicians and allied health practitioners in the delivery of specialist mental health care to young people and their families, who present with suicidality.
Skills, experience, and qualifications
Applicants should possess -
- Degree level qualifications in allied health, behavioural/social sciences, social work, mental health nursing, or a related discipline.
- Eligibility for membership with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) or with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
- Minimum of 4 years' experience working with young people and families.
- Advanced clinical skills in managing young people at risk, including suicide and violence risks.
- Demonstrated experience in working with young people in complex psychosocial environments, trauma informed care practice; and providing services that are culturally secure.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with a diverse range of people and professionals including cultural sensitively and cross cultural communication.
