Control Room Operator

The Control Room Operator is responsible for monitoring and controlling the fixed plant crushing circuit at the Wiluna C4 Iron Ore Project. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of crushing and associated processing equipment in line with production targets, safety requirements, and environmental standards.

Operational Control

• Accountable of the optimal operations of the fixed plant to maximise production throughput rates to meet and exceed a sites production schedule

• Monitor, control, and optimise the crushing plant and associated equipment.

• Ensure production throughput, product sizing, and quality specifications are achieved.

• Respond promptly to alarms, faults, and operational upsets, coordinating corrective actions with field operators.

• Initiate and manage start-up and shutdown sequences for plant equipment.

• Provision of backup support for Plant Operations as deemed competent.

• Accountable for maintaining the shift plant production, downtime and sampling logs and providing to site supervision at the end of each shift in a complete condition

• Ensuring vigilant observation on all the plant areas visible by SCADA sensors and actuators, CCTV views, and all radio calls to adjust plant operating parameters to reduce the impact of failed or degraded performance of plant & equipment.

• Completion of additional tasks delegated by manager in a timely manner

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with OTR Policies and Procedures, site safety standards, and the WHS Act/Regulations.

• Maintain situational awareness of plant hazards; stop operations if unsafe conditions arise.

• Follow isolation and permit-to-work procedures for maintenance and breakdowns.

• Assist in incident reporting, investigations, and implementation of corrective actions.

• Accountable for the safe handover of the plant at start of shift and ensure no vital alarms, bridges, overrides in place without the correct level of authority

• Responsible for ensuring try step of isolations and the right isolations are in place for personnel accessing parts of plant & equipment where isolations are required to be in place.

Communication & Coordination

• Maintain clear and continuous communication with field operators, maintenance crews, and supervisors.

• Monitor and report of any warnings and alarms to the maintenance team to inspect and report back on asset status to either continue to operate or adjust plant operating parameters.

• Log operational data, shift handovers, downtime, and production reports accurately.

• Provide input into daily production meetings regarding plant performance and issues.

• Attend all SafeStarts, toolbox meetings, and any other related meetings the project requires.

Maintenance Support

• Report equipment defects or failures to the Maintenance team.

• Support maintenance activities by coordinating plant status, isolations, and safe access.

• Ensure accurate tagging of equipment during breakdowns.

Continuous Improvement

• Assist in identifying opportunities to optimise plant efficiency, reduce downtime, and improve product quality.

• Contribute to reviews of plant performance data and recommend improvements.

• Participate in training and competency development programs

Essential:

• Previous experience as a Control Room Operator in iron ore or other mineral processing (fixed plant crushing preferred).

• Sound knowledge of crushing circuits, conveyors, screens, and associated equipment.

• Proficiency with SCADA/DCS/PLC control systems

• Sound MS Office skills

• Strong commitment to safety, with knowledge of isolation/LOTO and permit systems.

• Ability to work 12-hour shifts on a FIFO/DIDO roster.

• High level of attention to detail and communication skills.

• C Class Drivers Licence

• OH&S Construction Card (White Card)

• Proven ability in diagnosing root cause on equipment and assisting in coordinating field operators and maintenance for fault investigation.

• Initiative to anticipate issues from data trends and act accordingly through the resources available

• Ability to clearly communicate to operators/maintainers via radio on plant performance and key performance indicators

Desirable:

• Certificate III or IV in Resource Processing (or equivalent).

• Knowledge of WHS legislation, ISO standards, and environmental requirements.
