This is not your typical finance manager role — this is a newly created position designed for someone who thrives on variety, impact, and visibility across all levels of the organisation. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, this role will be hands-on in the day-to-day financial operations while also shaping the College's long-term financial direction.

You'll be equally comfortable reconciling accounts one moment and advising the Chief Executive and/or Board the next. From processing daily transactions and preparing monthly reports, to partnering with senior leaders and presenting to the Finance and Audit Committee, this role has true scope and influence.

As the financial backbone of the College, you'll ensure our systems, processes, and reporting are efficient, accurate, and compliant — supporting audit readiness, legislative requirements, and strategic decision-making. With a focus on sustainability and transparency, you'll help guide the college's financial future, providing the insights that empower confident, informed leadership.

In this varied and exciting role, some of the Key Responsibilities include:

Day to Day Financial Operations

  • Manage day-to-day bookkeeping, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, invoicing, receipts, and reconciliations (bank, credit card, and supplier accounts).
  • Ensure accuracy of cost centre and GL account allocations, including GST coding and reporting.
  • Prepare accrual and prepayment entries, maintain the fixed asset register, and oversee debtor reporting to relevant staff.
  • Supervise and support bookkeeping activities, ensuring that established processes are followed and recommending improvements where required

Financial Compliance & Reporting

  • Prepare and lodge statutory returns including:
  • Business Activity Statements (BAS) and GST returns
  • Superannuation lodgements
  • State payroll tax returns
  • WorkCover returns
  • ACNC annual return
  • Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) data
  • Annual tax return (including franking credit claims)
  • Ensure the College remains compliant with all financial and tax obligations, and represent the College in dealings with the Australian Taxation Office.

Budgeting & Strategic Oversight

  • Coordinate and prepare the annual budget process in consultation with the Chief Executive and Senior Managers.
  • Analyse and prepare monthly management reports, providing insights to support decision-making.
  • Prepare and analyse reports for the Finance & Audit Committee and College Board.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of grant acquittals in line with government contracts.

Payroll & Employee Obligations

  • Working with People & Culture team, administer end-to-end payroll processing, ensuring accurate calculation of wages, entitlements, and deductions in line with legislative and contractual obligations.
  • Ensure timely lodgement and payment of superannuation contributions for all employees.
  • Prepare and lodge state payroll tax returns in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Manage and reconcile WorkCover obligations, including returns and reporting.
  • Maintain compliance with Fair Work, taxation, and employment legislation as it relates to payroll.

Audit & Governance

  • Liaise with the external auditor and provide all necessary documentation for audit readiness.
  • Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled and documented.
  • Support continuous improvement in accounting processes, systems, and reporting.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Liaise with banks, auditors, and external advisors as required.
  • Work closely with the Chief Executive and Senior Managers to provide financial guidance and oversight.
  • Undertake other finance-related duties as requested by the Chief Executive.
  • Other duties as required.

We are looking for a dynamic team player with the following skillset

Essential:

  • CPA Qualified (or equivalent)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum 5 years Accounting experience
  • Expertise in MYOB Accounting software
  • Ability to meet tight timelines, managing multiple tasks
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work with a broad range of people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences
  • Medium to high level Microsoft Office skills, particularly MS Excel
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision

Desirable:

  • Experience or background in a medical college or similar membership or academic institution
  • Experience in working in a small office environment
  • Working knowledge of MYOB,
  • Working knowledge of Employment Hero payroll / HR platform.
