About The Role

We are looking for an experienced and independent-thinking Senior Mining Engineer to join our New Work & Technical Services team, based in our Thiess Brisbane Head Office in Southbank and reporting to one of Principal Mining Engineers, you will play a key role in our Australian Technical Services team. Your primary focus will be supporting operations across Eastern Australia, you will also be someone who likes to engage and assist site teams implement your practical medium and long-term schedules.

Each of our projects is different, and the opportunity to support multiple operations and complete new work tenders will provide a diverse workload, allowing a driven engineer to thrive. This challenge will leverage your leadership and collaboration skills with internal and client stakeholders.

Underpinning everything, your dependability, analytical skills and pride in attention to detail will enable you become a respected technical voice for your projects, allowing you to Make Your Mark and help guide our strategy at current and future operations.

Additionally, you will:

• Work with client technical & operational teams to coordinate and optimise mine plans
• Develop safe and productive medium and long-term pit and dump designs
• Take ownership of quarterly forecasting processes including stakeholder engagement to set strategy and input assumptions, running accurate mine schedules including haulage, then summarising and communicating outcomes
• Analyse operations (regardless of complexity) to define the critical value drivers and devise strategies to maximise return for both Thiess and our clients
• Assist with project or contract management activities
• Provide learning and coaching, and foster open communication with junior site engineers, virtually and through routine site visits
• Maintain accurate data in relevant systems, follow company procedures and file management expectations

About You

To excel in this role you will be a well rounded mining engineer who has ideally gained exposure to multiple commodities, with the ability and enthusiasm to influence stakeholders and drive business outcomes:

• 6 – 10 years' experience in the mining industry, primarily open pit focused
• Ability to engage others to justify and support technical output, and guide the decisions they make
• Varied technical services exposure that could include Short Term Planning, Drill & Blast, Operational roles, Medium/Long Term or Strategic Planning
• Strong capabilities in at least one mine scheduling package (e.g. Deswik or Spry) and CAD design package (e.g. Deswik or Vulcan)
• Excellent behavioural, time management, analytical, verbal and written communication skills
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Mining/Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
• Previous exposure to tendering, contract management, or linking technical work to financial outcomes will be highly regarded.
