Primary objective
Provide administrative and casework support services to children and families who are clients of Department of Children
and Families.

Key duties and responsibilities
Collaborate with caseworkers, families and carers to achieve the goals identified in the case plan.
Participate in the provision of access arrangements as directed, including transport observation and supervision of

access.
Assist carers to develop appropriate parenting skills and support networks to facilitate their ongoing care of their children

as indemnified in the case plan.
Document progress toward achieving goals and participate in regular review of goals identified in case plans.
Assist the team as required.
Under the guidance of a Team Leader manage Family Support and After Care support cases.
Prepare accurate reports as required.

Selection criteria
Essential
Knowledge and experience regarding Aboriginal cultural values and perspective's and demonstrated ability to work

closely with Aboriginal children and families in the community.
Knowledge of parenting issues including cultural differences in child rearing, child development, different ways to

manage children's behaviour, hygiene, nutrition and learning.
Good written and oral communication skills and computer literacy.
Understanding of the concept of client rights and the ability to show respect for client's rights.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Good organisational skills including the ability to work independently and manage time effectively and ability to maintain

confidentiality.
Flexibility with regard to days and hours of work and a willingness to work shift work.
A current manual driver's licence or the ability to obtain and preparedness to travel by 4WD/light plane and stay

overnight in remote communities where applicable.

Desirable
Understanding of the dynamics of child abuse and neglect and of the community Welfare Act as the context for practice.
Certificate III in Community Services or equivalent.
