About the role:

Reporting to the Senior Geospatial Data Analyst, the Data Analyst is a member of team responsible for providing geospatial data analysis to support regulatory operations and decision making. You will deliver advanced, tactical and operational data analytics services and support, aligned to EPA's strategic priorities to prevent harm to Victorian communities and the environment from pollution and waste.

In this role you will:

  • Deliver spatial data analysis and mapping products to support EPA's regulatory and strategic priorities.
  • Support the development of advanced analytics to automate detection of harm to communities and the environment from pollution and waste, informing tactical and operational decision making.
  • Develop risk assessment, non-compliance detection and pattern analysis products that directly respond to tactical and operational data needs, collaborating across the EPA and with external parties as required.
  • Develop processes, standards, and methods for tactical and operational data analysis (such as risk assessment, automatic non-compliance detection, pattern analysis); develop and implement data and information collection systems and storage.
  • Contribute to the uplift of geospatial data analytics capability across the EPA.

Skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in spatial data analysis, GIS, and geospatial technologies (e.g., geostatistics, spatio-temporal modelling, pattern analysis, spectral analysis).
  • A relevant tertiary degree and/or post graduate qualifications in data science, spatial analysis, GIS or a related discipline is desirable.
  • Experience using the programming language R, including R package and Shiny application development is desirable.
  • Ability to apply data analytics expertise to develop innovative solutions to new situations.
  • Understanding of version control software, preferably Git.
  • Demonstrated ability to present technical information to a range of stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work as an effective member of a cohesive team, with a demonstrated commitment to the successful delivrey of the highest organisational priorities; proven capability to build and sustain enduring relationships to enable the collaborative delivery of outcomes and achievement of goals and targets.
