About the Role:
The Debating Coach plays an important role in mentoring the students who participate in the debating program. The nature of the position is such that the Debating Coach may be required to be available outside normal school hours and be available to attend College events as might be relevant.
This is a casual position. We currently have 4 coaching positions available.
The Debating Coach will:
- Attend and coach designated debating trainings across Year 7-12
- Attend all debate nights and competitions associated with their teams
- Provide resource guides and materials for their allocated teams
- Provide advice and guidance to DAV and JSP debaters
- Facilitate public speaking seminars and competitions
- Assist with the organization and co-ordination of special events
- Liaise with the Head of Debating regarding sessions and events
Selection Criteria:
- Have experience in A Grade DAV Debating
- Accredited with the DAV as an adjudicator and/or previous coaching experience (preferable)
- Be familiar with the Debating Association of Victoria (DAV) Guidelines
- A commitment to educating children, working in and contributing to the ethos of a Jesuit school
- Demonstrated ability to act with and foster collaboration and effective teamwork
- Demonstrated knowledge and adherence to child safety, the Child Safe Standards and the provision of an exceptional culture of child safety
- Well-developed people management skills coupled with positive communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment that requires self-direction, team-orientation and the ability to effectively handle pressure in a manner consistent with Ignatian values
