Geospatial and geographic information systems (GIS) engineers work at the intersection of cartography, programming, and data analysis. They analyse spatial data analysis and engineering. They are tasked with spatial mapping data assets and calculation functions for integration with business applications supporting AEC's election management business processes. They use their technical skills as part of a multi-disciplinary agile delivery team to contribute to the overall goals and objectives of the team. The role is responsible for undertaking work that is moderately complex to complex and/or sensitive in nature, under limited direction, utilising expertise and knowledge within the geospatial domain.

Conduct technical design for geospatial related matters and provide technical insight and recommendations regarding spatial data and spatial engineering techniques and approaches.


Responsible for preparation of appropriate documentation such as design specifications, user guides and handover documentation.


Develop and maintain geospatial data assets and functions as part of a multi-disciplinary team of application developers, data engineers and business analysts.


Communicate the insights from GIS data to technical and non-technical stakeholders.


Good understanding of master and metadata concepts.


Design and implement geospatial solutions using SQL Server spatial data types (geometry and geography).


Develop and optimise spatial queries to support location-based services and analytics.


Integrate geospatial data with Azure Maps for routing, distance calculations, and spatial visualizations.


Build APIs and services that consume Azure Maps for real-time geospatial insights.


Collaborate with architects and analysts to define geospatial solution scope and data flows.


Maintain and enhance geospatial databases, ensuring performance and scalability.


Document geospatial integration patterns and provide technical support for Azure Maps usage

Applicants located outside of Canberra will be required to travel to Canberra for operational reasons as directed (e.g. onboarding, planning exercises [1-2 times per quarter], in person training, etc.). Any required travel will be discussed in advance and notice given wherever practicable.聽
