As a Chapter Lead/Engineering Senior Manager in Payments Technology at CBA, you will lead and inspire engineering teams to deliver secure, scalable, and innovative payment solutions that shape the future of banking in Australia. You will drive technical excellence, foster a high-performance culture, and ensure alignment with CBA's strategic objectives and regulatory requirements. Your leadership will be pivotal in transforming the Payments landscape, leveraging modern technologies and frameworks to deliver seamless, reliable, and secure customer experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical strategy for Payments engineering, delivering secure, scalable solutions.
- Own architecture for real-time payments (NPP), SWIFT, and event-driven systems.
- Champion modern tech: cloud-native, serverless, microservices, and event-driven patterns (AWS, Kafka, Temporal).
- Drive engineering excellence: DevSecOps, observability, automation.
- Build and grow teams: hire, mentor, and develop top engineering talent.
- Deliver outcomes: balance speed, quality, and technical debt while meeting business goals.
- Ensure compliance: regulatory, security, and risk standards.
- Collaborate widely: partner with product, business, and external stakeholders.
- Shape culture: foster innovation, inclusion, and continuous learning.
- Engage community: share knowledge, influence technical strategy, and mentor across CBA.
Tech Skills
We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don't expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these (or equivalents) will set you up for success in this team:
- Strong experience and understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, serverless, containers), databases (Aurora, RDS, Redis, Oracle), and programming languages (Typescript or Java or Python or C#).
- Strong understanding of event-driven systems (SQS, SNS, EventBridge, Kafka, Temporal) and modern engineering tooling (GitHub, Terraform, Artifactory).
- Desirable: Understanding of payments technologies and standards (NPP, SWIFT, BIAN).
- Desirable: Understanding of AI/ML in engineering (e.g., Claude, CoPilot, Gen-AI, RAG, Agentic-AI)
Design & Delivery:
- Proven ability to design and implement complex, secure, and scalable systems.
- Experience with system design, tech debt management, API and database design, and deployment methodologies (SRE, automation frameworks).
- Real-world experience operating microservices in a DevSecOps model.
- Leadership & Communication
- Demonstrated success in building, leading, and developing engineering teams.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills.
- Ability to drive technical strategy, gain support, and ensure execution across diverse teams.
Certifications (Preferred)
- AWS Solutions Architect and DevOps Engineer Professional
- AWS AI Practitioner and Machine Learning Specialty
- Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) / Developer (CKD)
