The Role
We are seeking a Youth Support Worker to assist an 11-year-old boy with Autism and ADHD behaviours based in Kensington, VIC.
The participant's mother, Shirley Luo, is looking for a reliable and friendly support worker who can first build trust and rapport with her son, helping him feel comfortable and supported.
This role focuses on gentle engagement, companionship, and shared activities that align with his interests, such as gaming (Roblox, Minecraft), sports, or creative play.
Participant Overview:
- 11-year-old boy living with Autism and ADHD
- Currently on a waiting list for Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy
- Enjoys video games (Roblox, Minecraft), outdoor play, and sports
- Needs a patient, fun, and engaging support worker who connects easily with children
- The family is looking for a young support worker who can interact and bond well
Supports Required:
- Build trust and rapport with the participant through consistent, friendly interaction
- Engage in shared activities: gaming, outdoor play, or sports
- Encourage communication, emotional regulation, and social interaction
- Provide companionship and gentle guidance during daily routines
- Support community participation and recreation activities
Travel & Activities:
The participant lives in Kensington and may need support travelling between:
- Home Kensington Recreation Centre (500m)
- Kensington City (4.5km)
- Kensington Northcote (7.7km)
Activities may include recreation, outdoor sports, music, or gaming depending on the support worker's skills and interests.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build a positive, trusting relationship with the participant and family
- Provide companionship and supportive presence
- Encourage participation in social, recreational, and play-based activities
- Promote confidence and self-esteem through positive engagement
- Maintain professional boundaries and communicate regularly with the parent
Plan Information:
- NDIS Core Supports
- Plan Start: February 2025
- Plan End: February 2026
Preferred Qualities:
- Young, energetic, and patient personality
- Experience or interest in supporting children with Autism or ADHD
- Ability to communicate clearly and engage through play
- Creative, flexible, and reliable
Eligibility Criteria:
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Working with Children Check (WWCC)
- Valid First Aid (HLTAID011) and CPR (HLTAID009)
- National Police Check (within last 12 months)
- Right to work in Australia
- Certificate III or IV in Disability, Individual Support, or Youth Work (preferred)
