Wandiyali is a Newcastle-based Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community Organisation. Our services operate throughout Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Hunter Region and Port Stephens.

Each year Wandiyali assists hundreds of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members through the delivery of its many services.

The aim of Wandiyali and its services is to 'Keep our Culture Strong'. We do this by focusing our services on children, families, strength, Culture and community.

The Opportunity

Yiring is an early intervention program that provides a range of flexible supports to young people aged 10-17 involved with or at risk of involvement with the youth justice system. The program aims to empower young people and their families to achieve change in the young person's behavior, increase safety, build on protective factors and increase connection to Culture.

The Yiring Caseworker will provide Culturally safe, child centred and family focused support to children, young people and families at risk of involvement in the youth justice system.

Desirable criteria:

  • Positions Relevant tertiary qualifications

Essential Criteria:

  • A commitment to the Vision, Mission, and Values of our Organisation.
  • Is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Person
  • Knowledge and/or experience in providing case management support to vulnerable children, young people, and families where there are complex needs including drug and alcohol use, mental health, domestic and family violence.
  • An understanding of the risk and protective factors relating to youth offending and/or anti-social behavior and the barriers for families to addressing these.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in delivering 1:1 and/or group based, evidence-informed, Culturally appropriate, and developmentally appropriate interventions to children, young people, and families to improve social and emotional wellbeing.
  • Knowledge, experience, or willingness to commit to further training in evidence-informed programs in the context of youth offending and child protection.
  • Excellent Organisational and time management skills.
  • Strong client focus, with confidence and resilience liaising and developing and maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience in appropriate record keeping, report writing and data entry.
  • Proven effective interpersonal skills including written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to actively participating in teamwork, training, and supervision processes.
  • Ability and commitment to implement appropriate and respectful conflict resolution strategies within the community and working environment.
