Gilgandra Local Aboriginal Medical Service (GLAMS) are seeking an enthusiastic and committed person to fill the full-time position of Family & Domestic Violence Advocate. This position will provide support to people who are affected by DFV (Domestic and Family Violence), respond to DFV experiences and work closely with the integrated service response to assess risk, execute safety plans and provide coordinated responses to people experiencing DFV. While we have advertised the role as full-time employment, we would be happy to discuss the possibility of a part-time role.

Note:  This is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Identified Position authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW, which requires successful candidates to provide proof of Aboriginality.

Essential:

  • Identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander with ability to provide proof of Aboriginality (mandatory)
  • Relevant AQTF Certificate IV in Aboriginal Family Wellbeing and Violence Prevention Work or Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice or Certificate IV in Community Services (or currently studying towards or willing to obtain)
  • Demonstrated experience in working with people who may be experiencing a crisis, including the ability to conduct risk assessments, develop plans around safety and needs identified
  • Experience working with vulnerable young people impacted by DFV in individual and group-based settings.
  • Experience working collaboratively with other agencies
  • Knowledge of working within a Family and Domestic violence prevention frameworks
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the CAHS code of conduct, equal employment opportunity, work health & safety and cultural safety framework
  • Current nationally coordinated criminal history check, NSW working with children's check and unrestricted class C or P2 driver's license

Desirable:

  • Aboriginal Health worker/practitioner registration with AHPA
  • Experience working in an Aboriginal community-controlled health organisation or providing community health to Aboriginal communities
