We are looking for a Groundskeeper to join our team and make and maintain our school's beautiful surroundings and buildings. Our Groundskeeper will have many tools at their disposal for optimal maintenance. They should be able to keep up the appearance of our outdoor and indoor areas by keeping lawns manicured, hedges trimmed and surroundings clean from debris. They should also be able to assist the existing maintenance team with basic maintenance of the school facilities.
A Groundskeeper's responsibilities include maintaining site landscaping; fertilizing lawns, trees and shrubs. They also trim hedges or bushes to keep them looking neat throughout the year.
The main responsibility will be to work outside to ensure our outdoor areas maintain a professional appearance for guests and employees to enjoy. A secondary responsibility will be to perform maintenance tasks alongside our existing maintenance.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
  • Mows lawns, trims weeds, and rakes leaves as assigned.
  • Picks up and removes rubbish in and around the school grounds.
  • Trims bushes, shrubs, and hedges.
  • Sources plants, flowers, bushes, etc from preferred providers.
  • Prepares soil and plants flowers, bushes, hedges, or shrubs.
  • Plants trees and prunes them when necessary.
  • Cuts and removes trees as needed.
  • Applies water, fertilizer, pesticides, and herbicides as directed.
  • Performs or sources routine maintenance on equipment including sprinkler system, machinery, etc.
  • Maintain chickens, veggie & herb patch and surrounding area including purchasing of feed, collecting eggs/veggies/herbs, etc.
  • Organise bollards/gates for trucks, vans etc that need entry into school.
  • Schedule specialty services such as ground leveling, paving, etc
  • Installs and maintains garden fences, gates, retaining walls, rock gardens, outdoor lighting, and other design features.
  • Painting, maintenance on doors/windows, broken tables/chairs etc
  • Digs trenches and levels ground (or is able to source appropriate services)
  • Liaise with outside contractors to obtains quotes for works onsite
  • Oversee works by outside contractors
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to operate various types of power equipment including lawnmowers, trimmers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, powered maintenance tools and other landscaping equipment.
  • Ability to use hand tools required for landscaping and basic maintenance.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete assignments.
  • Knowledge of landscaping techniques and processes.
  • Knowledge of basic maintenance techniques and processes.
  • Excellent time management skills.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience preferred.
  • On-the-job training offered.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods walking, standing, bending, stretching, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, or kneeling.
  • Must be physically able to operate power equipment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 kgs at a time.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions.
