Wing's Wildlife Park is a family owned & operated tourist attraction offering a multi award-winning wildlife park, camping ground, accommodation units and country style café.  Wing's Wildlife Park has been operating for nearly 40 years and provides the ideal spot to relax and enjoy nature and let the worries of the world drift on by.  We operate 7 days pw including public holidays (closed Christmas day and Anzac Day).

JOB DESCRIPTION – ROLE OVERVIEW

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Wildlife Keeper Supervisor to join our team at Wing's Wildlife Park in Gunns Plains.  In this leadership role, you will oversee the daily operations of the keepers' team, ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare and husbandry practices.

As a supervisor, you will be responsible for mentoring and evaluating our team of wildlife keepers, for overseeing the wellbeing of our animals and all associated records.  At times, this position may be involved in direct animal care and habitat enhancements.  This position works collaboratively with the head of the wildlife keeper team and the head of front of house.

KEY REQUIREMENTS
  • Available to work between the hours of 8.00am to 5.30pm Monday to Sunday.
  • 5+ years' experience in wildlife care settings, with at least 2 years' experience supervising a wildlife keeper team.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and guide a diverse team.
  • Strong understanding of animal husbandry practices, behaviour management and enrichment techniques.
  • Physically apt to work within all areas of the park (health assessment from doctor to be provided including mention of any allergies).
  • Tetanus vaccination up to date is mandatory (certificate to be provided).
  • Confident with public speaking with staff and guests within the park, individually or in groups.
  • Presents a strong work ethic and a passion for the delivery of a high-quality customer service.
  • Have a Working with Vulnerable People Card.
  • Manual driver's licence mandatory.
  • Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Office 365 (excel, word, outlook, publisher or canva).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Team leadership:  supervise, train, schedule and mentor wildlife keepers in their work.  Direct reports may vary from 2-6 keepers depending on the workload.
  • Safety and compliance:  ensure the team adheres to health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Customer service:ensure the team keepers deliver high quality talks, hands-on animal encounters, guided tours and other experiences offered at the park.  Maintain high engagement with visitors.
  • Point of liaison with head of wildlife keeper:  ensure active daily reporting and raise any concerns or issues.
  • Animal care & welfare:  ensure high standards of daily care of animals by overseeing feeding, cleaning and enrichment activities.
  • Habitat maintenance:ensure maintenance and presentation of animal enclosures to ensure safety and welfare standards for animals and the public.
  • Documentation and planning:  review animal records, assist with collection planning, and contribute to the development of husbandry manuals and procedures.
  • Social media platforms:  provide quality content to promote the park on our social media platforms.
QUALIFICATIONS & LICENCES REQUIRED
  • Bachelor's degree in Zoology, Animal Science, Biology, or a related field.
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid.
  • Current manual Tasmanian Class C driver's licence.
  • Valid Working with Vulnerable People card.
  • Wildlife Rehabilitation training.

DESIRABLE

  • HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation preferred.
  • HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Wing's Wildlife Park is a smoke-free workplace across all its sites, facilities and vehicles
  • The park is physically demanding site with areas having a very steep gradient and accessible only via foot. The keepers mostly work outside in all weather conditions.
