About the job
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Materials Engineer with industry experience to provide expert technical support to our Engineering studies team. In this role, you will provide expert technical support and deliver fit-for-purpose solutions across water and wastewater systems, standards, and infrastructure. You will play a key part in ensuring compliance, innovation, and excellence in material science applications within the corporation.

You are a detail-oriented and solutions-driven professional with a passion for material science and engineering. You thrive in collaborative environments and can translate complex technical concepts into practical solutions
Additional responsibilities include:
- Apply WHS roles and responsibilities, promote Safety in Design (SiD), and ensure health and safety risks are eliminated or minimized throughout the asset lifecycle.
- Provide specialist investigation, design, and technical auditing for SA Water projects, ensuring compliance with time, budget, and quality requirements.
- Develop and apply knowledge in durability, materials selection, coatings, welding, polymers, and failure investigation to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions.
- Assist in developing and maintaining SA Water's technical standards and guidelines, ensuring best-for-business solutions that meet asset lifecycle requirements.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, recommend adoption where beneficial, and seek value-add initiatives to enhance material and cathodic protection practices.
- Work effectively within multidisciplinary teams, support training initiatives, and contribute to knowledge sharing through forums and workshops.
Your success in this role will come from:
- Strong knowledge of material engineering practices relevant to the water industry, with a focus on durability planning, modelling, concrete and steel structures remediation.
- Tertiary qualifications in Material or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent), with relevant industry experience.
- Experience in technical investigations, condition assessment, and auditing within water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Proven ability to deliver complex and critical engineering solutions in the materials discipline.
- Experience in the development and auditing of technical standards and infrastructure guidelines.
- Familiarity with welding, protective coatings, metallurgy, pipelines, and pressure vessels.
