With one of the largest listed defence company market capitalisations in Australia, part of the ASX200 index, and having raised approximately $250m in 2024 alone, DroneShield is undergoing hypergrowth stage, fuelled by rapidly increasing use of drones for nefarious applications, from battlefield, to terrorism, to contraband delivery and commercial espionage.
This role is in the DroneShield Sydney headquarters in Sydney CBD. There are approximately 380 staff based in the 4,000sqm facility today, scheduled to grow to approximately 500 staff by end of 2026. Overseas on the ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Netherlands, Denmark, Mexico and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally.
About The Role
DroneShield is seeking a Systems Engineer to join our growing team in Sydney. This role will be dedicated to the DroneShield Platforms Team and offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and innovative environment, supporting the deployment and scaling of critical software tools for our software, security, and systems engineering teams. As a key contributor, you will play a pivotal role in enabling the business to scale its operations efficiently and securely, ensuring the successful deployment of critical corporate software tools to the business.
This position will see you working across a variety of software tools and infrastructure projects, providing expertise in deploying reliable, scalable, and secure solutions. You will support the introduction of new tools and systems to increase velocity of the software engineering teams, enabling automation and AI integration where possible, while ensuring compliance with security standards.
The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and the ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You will be comfortable working independently in fast-paced environments, while also collaborating effectively as part of a team.
Responsibilities, Duties And Expectations
- Support the introduction and deployment of new software tools to enhance the capabilities of the software, security, and systems engineering teams.
- Ensure the scalability, reliability, and security of platforms hosting these tools, including on-premises and cloud infrastructure.
- Engage with stakeholders across various departments, including Sales, Engineering, and Customer Support, to gather detailed requirements and understand the customer needs and market trends
- Serve as a liaison between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders, translating business needs into actionable engineering tasks and ensuring that requirements are clearly understood
- Drive the deployment of tools and platforms at speed and scale to support the company's growth.
- Break down complex requirements into manageable user stories and functional specifications for the engineering teams to implement
- Collaborate closely with engineers to refine requirements, ensuring technical feasibility and alignment with business goals
Qualifications, Experience And Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Proven experience (3-5 years) as a Systems Engineer, Solutions Engineer, or equivalent role, in a technology-driven environment, preferably in Software.
- Strong experience in requirements gathering / management, stakeholder management, and project / feature documentation.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a focus on delivering robust and scalable solutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with tools such as Jira and Confluence
- Experience with tools and platforms such as GitLab, AWS, Grafana, VPN technologies, and requirements management tools (e.g., Jama) is advantageous
