Position Overview

An Early Childhood Teacher at Precious Gems Childcare would be leading high-quality, play-based learning for the children. They'd focus on implementing engaging programs across indoor and outdoor environments, aligned with the EYLF and NQS. The role includes observing and assessing children's development, maintaining accurate documentation, and creating inclusive, culturally safe experiences that support each child's wellbeing, learning, and school readiness. They'd also be responsible for building strong partnerships with families through regular communication, collaborating with educators to model best practice, and upholding rigorous standards for health, safety, and child protection.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Be the responsible person when required and carry out all duties and responsibilities related to the shift being worked as well as specific duties allocated by the Director and Person in Day-to-Day Charge (PIDTDC).
  • Use a wide range of teaching methods (stories, media, indoor or outdoor games, drawing etc) to enhance the children's motor skills, cooperative social skills and provide them with a variety of experiences.
  • Evaluate children's performance to make sure they are on the right learning track.
  • Remain in constant communication with parents and update them on the progress of their children and attend parent interviews and meetings when required ..
  • Observe and document each child's learning (portfolios, learning stories), analyse progress, and use evidence to plan next steps.
  • Monitoring students' nutritional, welfare, and safety needs and recognizing factors that may hinder their progress.
  • Work as a team member to provide a responsive environment that supports Children's wellbeing, relationships and learning through intentional teaching, partnerships and critical reflection.
  • Assist in the implementation of high-quality children's programs in line with legislative requirements and contemporary theories and approaches, responding to individual strengths and interests of children, families and staff.
  • Work in line with Education & Care National Law/Regs, NQS, EYLF, Child Protection, Family Assistance Law, and Kids Haven policies (Child Safety & Wellbeing; OH&S Staffing; Interactions).
  • Set-up/pack-down of indoor/outdoor areas; safety checks, undertake first-aid readiness; food/nutrition practices per policy, ensure hygiene and infection control.

Qualifications/Skills Required

  • Graduate Diploma or Higher in Early Childhood Education.
  • Minimum 01-year prior experience as an early childhood teacher, delivering a high-quality play-based educational program.
  • Strong ability to lead, mentor and guide educational teams.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills with staff, children, families and communities.
  • Experience working with vulnerable children and families.
  • Understanding of the Victorian Early Years Learning Development Framework, Education Care Services National Law and Regulations, the National Quality Framework and Child Safe Standards.
