This is a Full Time Fixed Term position to 30/06/2026 with the possibility of extension and/or permanency.
About The OPPORTUNITY
This position provides comprehensive, culturally safe, mental health liaison and acute intervention services, nursing leadership, professional consultation and advanced clinical practice within a Wheatbelt Hospital environment. Responsible for providing a timely and specialised Clinical Mental Health Liaison Consultancy service to all Wheatbelt Hospitals. The prime purpose of this position is to conduct primary mental health assessments of all patients presenting the Wheatbelt Emergency Departments or who are admitted onto general wards and who may be considered requiring specialised mental health assessments. Priorities include consultation services to clinicians providing assistance and information to consumer and carers. Is a liaison and link with relevant others in Wheatbelt Health Services, Community Mental Health Services, Alcohol and Other Drugs services and Mental Health Emergency Telehealth Services.

To be successful in this role, you will have…

  • Workplace leadership experience relevant to hospital-based mental health practice.
  • Advanced skills in the assessment and nursing management of complex psychiatric presentations, risk assessment, crisis intervention and management of aggression in a clinical setting and providing evidence-based interventions for people with mental disorders.
  • Advanced written, verbal and interpersonal communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Mental Health Act of WA.
  • An ability to work within a multidisciplinary environment.
  • A working knowledge of computers and information systems relevant to the position/role including the use of video conferencing options.
