About the Team

The Industrial Relations Strategy team, within the Human Resources Strategy Branch plays a critical role in managing the Department of Education's industrial relations framework. The team leads five complex bargaining rounds for the department, including managing industrial action, scope applications, and industrial disputes related to bargaining.

Your Role

These Brisbane-based AO6 Senior Advisor roles report to Managers, Industrial Relations Strategy, you will join a team to provide expert advice and services to managers on employee and industrial relations matters including interpretation of industrial instruments, policies, systems and practices and legislation.

The team's work is dynamic and evolves throughout the bargaining cycle, with agreements expiring every three years. The role involves  contributing to the ongoing coordination and promotion of high-quality employee and industrial relations services and solutions in a large and complex organisation and to lead and oversee projects with a specific focus on industrial relations outcomes associated with enterprise bargaining.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist in developing and implementing new and revised processes, policies and procedures relevant to employee and industrial relations.
  • Contribute to the delivery of project outcomes with a specific focus on employee and industrial relations.
  • Participate in consultation and negotiations with key stakeholders, departmental work units, professional associations and other public sector agencies.
  • Undertake research and analysis of industrial relations matters.
  • Draft correspondence, briefing notes and advice on industrial relations matters.

About You:

  • Strong knowledge in industrial relations, including interpreting legislation, industrial instruments, and policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake research, analyse complex issues, and provide sound advice on industrial relations matters.
  • High-level organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to foster collaboration and build productive relationships with stakeholders.
