Hobart, Tasmania, Australia Oribus Pty Ltd Full time $70,000 - $120,000 per year

Hobart, Melbourne, Adelaide or Sydney (or regional locations) | Full-time or Part-time

"OT Software engineering is the quiet magic that connects data, systems and people, creating smarter, more reliable ways to deliver energy"

At Oribus, we're not just implementing control systems for major transmission and distribution companies—we're shaping the future of energy. We're looking for passionate engineers who want to be part of something bigger: driving innovation, sustainability, and smarter energy solutions.

As an Operational Technology Software Engineer, you'll join a team that's collaborative, curious, and committed to making a difference. You'll work on cutting-edge projects in Electricity Distribution, Electricity Transmission and Gas Distribution to improve grid control systems and energy delivery processes —across Tasmania and mainland Australia.

Preferably you're based in Hobart, Melbourne, Sydney or Adelaide - however we also support remote working so regional engineers can also apply. Whether you're seeking part-time or full-time work, this role offers flexibility, purpose, and the chance to grow alongside a small team of talented and committed engineers.

What You'll Be Working On

You'll be part of a high-performing team that supports your development and values your perspective. Your work will span:

  • Electrical Control Systems including

  • Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) platforms

  • Advanced Distribution Management Systems (specifically OSI/Aspentech ADMS)
  • Energy & Gas Management Systems
  • Generation Management Systems
  • Building and integrating software to support outage management, reliability and quality of supply
  • Developing interfaces and APIs between control systems and corporate systems to optimise business processes and reporting
  • Working with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) data to uncover insights and improve customer energy outcomes
  • Writing software and scripts to automate testing, commissioning and system upgrades
  • Supporting commissioning of new or modified control system software
  • Enhancing network modelling, simulation, and analytics tools
  • Exploring and implementing advanced automation and DER (Distributed Energy Resource) integration solutions

Tools You'll Learn To Use

We're looking for graduate software engineers who are comfortable with—or excited to learn—industry-leading tools and platforms, including:

  • Python, C, C#, Java, XML/XSL
  • MongoDB, SQL Server
  • Windows and Linux Operating Systems
  • OSI ADMS/SCADA Application Suite
  • AMI Metering Systems & data integration tools
  • DER integration and DERMS
  • Corporate System Integration frameworks (APIs, middleware)
  • GIS systems
  • Power system modelling tools (SINCAL, PSSE, DIgSILENT)

What You Bring

  • A degree in Software Engineering, Computer Systems, or a related field
  • A passion for software and energy, with a collaborative mindset
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a drive to make energy smarter and more sustainable
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a desire to deliver value to clients

Please Note: Only candidates with the right to live and work in Australia will be considered for this position.
