The ACT Human Rights Commission is seeking an experienced leader and advocate to join the Commission as Victims of Crime Commissioner.

As Victims of Crime Commissioner, you will be the ACT's independent statutory advocate for victims of crime within the Human Rights Commission. The Victims of Crime Commissioner is the head of agency for Victim Support ACT, a frontline service which offers support, advocacy and financial assistance to eligible victims of crime. You will also be the administrator of the Intermediary Program, a 24/7 service which enables independent officers of the court to provide independent communication advice to police, courts and lawyers, with the aim of ensuring vulnerable witnesses can provide their best evidence.

The ideal candidate will have extensive strategic leadership experience in complex and dynamic operating environments, including demonstrated skills managing frontline client services and financial assistance schemes. You will communicate with confidence and influence, including via the media. It is highly desirable that you have direct experience working with victims of crime and working knowledge of criminal justice processes.

Remuneration

The remuneration for this position is set by determination of the ACT Remuneration Tribunal. From 1 July 2025, the base salary is $259,627.00 with a total remuneration of $291, These amounts exclude superannuation, which will vary depending on the successful candidate's superannuation arrangements. Fund of choice contributions are made at a rate of 12%. PSS and CSS contributions are made in accordance with the rules governing those schemes.

Contract

The successful applicant will be engaged under a performance-based long-term contract for a period of up to five years. Prospective applicants should be aware that long-term engagements are tabled in the ACT Legislative Assembly.
